Just an idea...screenshots as bzflag textures.
Has anybody thought of using an actual BZFlag screenshot as a texture in a game? Seems like you could create some interesting effects. For instance, say you create a narrow "hallway" with a wall at the far end. Go into your map to the entrance to the hallway, get nicely squared up and take a screenshot (make sure you are in roaming mode so you don't have a mousebox!!).
Now, go and modify your map so that the wall at the end of the hallway uses your screenshot as a texture. If this would work (I dunno if it would, haven't tried it), your hallway would now appear to be twice as long! You could maybe even repeat the process using the new screenshot to triple the apparent depth of the hallway.
What good is the idea? Well, you could make the wall at the end drivethrough...what's on the other side is up to you. You could also put a teleport on the other side of the drivethrough wall.
All sortsa nasty possibilities, assuming it would work.

or....
Have a fake tank with a small .01 teleport located at the muzzle. Elsewhere you have a TP linked to the teensy one so that somebody shoots into it, looks like the fake tank is shooting. They shoot back, tank no explodee, what fun, yes?

{I think}
Code: Select all
box
name secretBox
position 0 0 5
size 5 5 5
rotation 0
noradar
end
I never make stupid mistakes. Only very, very clever ones.
It is not the fall that kills you. It's the sudden stop at the end.
Always remember you are unique. Just like everybody else.

You might need to do a texture matrix and scale the screenie to fit the object:
textureMatrix
name screenie_tex
fixedscale x y
end
then reference the texturematrix in your material statement with "texmat screenie_tex". You'd have to fiddle with the values to get the sizing right.
The other thing is, you might wanna convert your screenshot to a jped for upload to the forum to cut the download time. It only takes a second to fire up an image editor and do the conversion (and maybe a bit of cropping, if necessary) so you can upload a smaller file for viewing purposes.
It's just a thought.

I would suggest to actually make the scene that you want to be fake. Make it 'noradar' so it is invisible on radar if you want to. Then, put a tele with an invisible link material somewhere in the scene, so when you are driving toward something you see you will suddenly be teleported to another place.
There are some neat perspective effects you can do, by the way - take a look in the entrance room to Tiny-Huge Island in Super Mario 64 [N64/DS] for an example, or the mirror room in the same game.
