I find the fact that people say such glowing things about at test app they have little to no understanding of, hilarious.

So why can't you invest this developing time in upgrading bzflag? I am really not looking forward to what I think is going to happen (BZF dying) Although this does look like it has potential, and if it does replace BZF and a community develops behind it (like the BZF forums here) I'll back it up as much as I can.

What development time are you devoting?

Asking me? none, but only because I have no programming experience.

That is where everyone starts, no one is born with it. So, that isn't really a good excuse!

Back to your original question... There are many reasons BZFlag is dying, and one of them is the actual BZFlag code base. It was never meant to be an Internet game; it was a multi-player LAN game. BZFlag (1992) is older than the commercialized Internet (1995). There are many problems with the code that makes it difficult to work on and makes a fresh start very appealing. That it has lasted this long is a testament to it's appeal and the effort that has been put into it over the years.

Ok, that makes sense. So Open combat has the potential of becoming what BZF is/was? Starting to sound appealing now ;)

This is a new game. Not a bzflag replacement. No doubt Jeff has learned some things and got ideas from his years of working on bzflag but I don't think he is trying to make this game into a new bzflag. So don't be upset if it not as similar as you're hoping.
