CHAT/RADAR FPS

Post by Mr_Molez »

I have noticed that the radar and chat windows uses fps probably due to it all using 3d acceleration. I was wondering if there was anyway to make this independent and to not use acceleration in a bid to improve the framerate while playing..
I am probably way off the mark though..
Any feeback ?

ummm, the entire frame is drawn with open GL so it has to use acceleraton. In an OpenGL frame that's all you have is GL. You want everything to use the card, so it's fast. You can't have part use the card and part not use the card. And even if you did the part that didn't use the card would be slow.

I think what you are thinking is that it's "2d". in OpenGL 2d is just 3d with one axis allways being the same. The speed problems come from the font rendere, and the fact that radar has to redraw the entire world. There are other options that could speed it up, but noone has done the research into them or tried to implement it.
