Mrs. Catcher (with some help from me) has produced nearly 200 BZFlag tank cookies that I will be taking to the Google Summer of Code 2009 Mentor Summit this weekend. BZFlag was one of 150 organizations that participated in the GSoC, and we are proud of our 4 students who all completed their projects successfully.

I'll take five dozen, please. :D Those are hands down the most amazing cookies I have ever seen. Ever.

Give everyone in GSoC my best wishes!

InfraRed, were you logged in to this forum when you clicked on the image links? That seems to be a requirement, just as it is for posting.

First, tanks that fly. Now, tanks that are edible. What is the world coming to...?

Yeah, pretty sure, otherwise how would I have been able to post my comment....but good thing I came back today and good thing I wrote that comment. The links work now and they are awesome!!! Decorating with icing like that ain't easy, and the cutout is clean cut. How creative!

I made the cookie cutter by re-bending an inexpensive metal cookie cutter. That took about 15 minutes.

By request here is the recipe, which may be redistributed under CC-BY-NC license terms:

Sugar Cookies

Cream 1/2 C margarine (1 stick -- or use 1/2 C shortening & 1/2 tsp butter flavoring) with 1 C sugar. Blend in 1 large egg and 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (plus 2 tbsp orange juice, optional).

Sift together 2 C flour, 2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt then mix wet and dry ingredients well. Form into 2 equal balls, wrap in plastic and chill for at least 1 hour. Roll out 1/4 inch thick, cut into shapes and Bake at 350F for 5-8 minutes.

Royal Icing

Beat 1 lb (approx 4 C) sifted powdered sugar with 3 tbsp meringue powder and 1/2 C warm water (plus 1/4 tsp almond extract, optional) for 7-10 minutes at low speed with a heavy-duty mixer (10-12 minutes at high speed with a hand-held mixer). Add additional water for proper consistency. Makes about 3 cups.
