Nice jumps for reaching the top side (7.5 MiB)

Post by alfa1 »

Hi!

These pics were taken from a nice try of a brave group for reaching the HARD top side from medium level...

2 times: in the first one, nobody do it :(... in the second one: you can see the result ;)

Note: between #7 and #8 there is a little "jitter"?
Note #2: I tried to convert them to the tiniest size.

Way to go, alpha1! Are you insured for such dangerous acrobatics though?

That jump becomes easy when you turn "Energy Saver" to ON in your "Options->Display Settings".
As far as I know it is impossible with normal settings.
Playing with this setting is very annoying, so I'm always suspicious of players that make this jump during a match without having an opportunity to change their settings beforehand (by stopping momentarily or having some undisturbed time going straight).
I guess it's a bug and there may be other more playable settings that allow such jumps too. If you know of any please let me know so that I need no longer be so suspicious. :-)

Please see later posting by me. It is possible using normal settings.

I play with Energy Saver On at my monitor's refresh rate (59fps) and I can make the jump the a majority of the time.

How does your FPS affect your jumping abilities? IS it just visual? Or does changing your FPS change how fast the game engine runs? If so, how does that help?

The simulation is tied to the frame rate, very high rates and very low rates affect the simulation in a negative way. One of our goals is to decouple simulation from the frame rate but it's a very big task.

OK. I take it back. It is possible, though difficult, to achieve using normal settings.
You can see from the screenshots posted how close to the edge you must be to achieve the jump @ 150 fps (approx.).

I tried a few various settings and it's possible using many of them.

I have attached 2 screenshots with highly zoomed-in radar to demonstrate.
The first shows the position where I jumped:

and the second how I landed:

It was necessary to turn slightly in mid-air in order to catch the ledge.

I was trying it again and I think, as some of you told me, that I have a bit more advantage maybe because my less FPS (around 60)...

Server: bzbattleground.com:5157
Lag: around 200
Energy saver: off

Launching

Landing

Note: I was trying a lot for taking screenshots with bigger radar size and zoom but the results were bad (or I failed my jump, or the shot was before/after the jump/landind :P). Anyways, I think that these pics are relatively trully.

LOL
When I went out and back (in twice ocassions) I had aroung 700 of lag (you are always nr just before) and inmediately the jump was much more easy! Take a look:
bzfi0147.png
Launching 1
(513.2 KiB) Not downloaded yet
bzfi0148.png
Landing 1
(337.43 KiB) Not downloaded yet
bzfi0149.png
Launching 2
(507.38 KiB) Not downloaded yet
bzfi0150.png
Landing 2
(331.77 KiB) Not downloaded yet
Inmediately I returned I felt like I were more fast :D

(BTW that lag, after you returned (by pressing F4, etc.), I think that it isn't a really lag, but I don't understand well this kind of "false" lag)
