First off, welcome! :) I hope to meet you and play with you sometime.

Second, if you want to get out of the "noobie" life, (don't worry, everyone starts out in it. ) I highly suggest you do at least one of these things.

1. Learn to dodge. The best place, or places in my opinion for this are the 1 versus 1 servers, the hepcat server, or a pillbox server. These servers have no jumping, so you'll have to learn how to avoid bullets to get a positive score. The number one tip most players will likely give you is to use your radar as much as possible. When your back is turned, it is the only way to avoid being shot in the back.

2. If you don't know much about the game, you can look in the help, or even better, try this site out. http://www.willempen.org/bzflag/tutorial/ It doesn't touch on strategy that much, but it does give you an outline of all the flags, styles, chatting, and configuration of your own tank and such.

3. Get involved! The best way to get better is to play someone better than you, and being truthful, there are a lot of people better than you. If you get in a league, you can be a part of a team and play among the best. You will get better, you will have more fun. :) Here are all the active leagues I can think of as of now.

The GU League http://gu.bzleague.com/
The Ducati League http://my.bzflag.org/league/
The Pillbox League http://pillbox.bzleague.com/
The 1vs1 League http://1vs1.bzleague.com/

Hope you try one of these things and become a great bzflagger! :D

I would really suggest playing on some of the non-jumping servers. Even if you don't do too well, after a while you'll get better, and not just there but at almost every server. The most important thing, though, is not to give up.

I never make stupid mistakes. Only very, very clever ones.
It is not the fall that kills you. It's the sudden stop at the end.
Always remember you are unique. Just like everybody else.
