I never understood how all these youngsters start playing bzflag. Personally I started using using linux at home because I used it at my university, and I found bzflag while toying around with apt-get.

But how do all the youngsters find the game?
Are they using their parents linux computer?
Are they using the windows version?
Do youngsters browse sourceforge?
Has it become unfashionable to own a playstation?

It's "sourceforge", as toomuchloving correctly spelt it.
See www.google.com for more information.

over 1/2 the running clients at any one time are windows clients.

People find the game via Google and other search systems ( freshmeat, etc.. ), not all use source forge ( or even know what it is ).

Linux users actually only make up about 20-25% of the players. But nearly 100% of the servers.

The game is mostly played because it is free to the end user(as in beer), not necessarily because of it's open source status.

Yes, there is sourceforge for everyone, it has nothing to do with your operating system. The site is at http://sourceforge.net/

Here is the blurb from the SourceForge website on what they are:
SourceForge.net is the world's largest Open Source software development web site, hosting more than 100,000 projects and over 1,000,000 registered users with a centralized resource for managing projects, issues, communications, and code. SourceForge.net has the largest repository of Open Source code and applications available on the Internet, and hosts more Open Source development products than any other site or network worldwide. SourceForge.net provides a wide variety of services to projects we host, and to the Open Source community.

My brother, (Callsign: Ofidian) used to play the game a lot. At first I wasn't interested, but he persuaded me to play so he could play against me. Because of my lack of experience, he usually got better scores than me, but I think his plan backfired, as I now play all the time and have become so good that he has lost the energy to play.

Shame on me for discouraging a frequent player from playing this noble game, but embrace the fact that some players rise at the expense of others. This is just my juvenile point of view.

Once when I had linux (back around 6 years ago) I was toying around and found BZ on it. There was also a very violent game and I would switch between the two but after awhile I got hooked on BZ. Been playing ever since :D

Oddly enough I found it from Urbandictionary.com. Someone said they would rather be playing bzflag than doing something else, so I did a search for bzflag and here I am!

Do you happen to remember the word entry on urbandictionary that led you to bzflag? The MoFo crew are big fans of the urbandictionary.

\found this game on SF.net
