Yes, you are to new. Blast and I are both developers and we are not kidding either.

So I went into an empty map with a friend and he did it and I did it....and it is quite useful in Rabbit games where like I said...he (or she, since I'm a she) thinks he got you and moves on to the next hunter. Then you've got him (or her)... ha.
To make sure you see what I mean... both of you stay at ground level, face each other, and shoot just one.... Go ahead punk... make my day... (Clint Eastwood reference intentional)
Why would I make this up? Geeeezzz. Giving you all a tip and what do I get... slack.
Try it and then see... you nonbelievers are in for a suprise. Me thinks my kamikaze style of playing allowed me to figure this out!
If you are too close to a GM when it is fired, it sometimes goes through you even if the other player got a lock. How close was your friend to you?

Of course, it could be possible InfraRed is completely wrong or lying, but just hoping to come up with a logical explanation.

No, I've tried to hit shots before, and it never works, sorry, but joevano is right, you can not hit shots, sorry, but you're in the wrong.

Not really sure how close I was...about two buildings apart on a HIX map..800 size...but all this is very interesting to learn indeed. I think I've had happen what you mention too, which just fed into the what is going on here thoughts on GM. I'm having alot of fun learning the nuances of each flag. Such a great game!

BTW...I prefer to say I was mistaken, defined as "an error caused by lack of skill, attention, or knowledge" as opposed to wrong, which implies lying, and a motivation that is bad. Clearly lacking the knowledge of these nuances, which most of you have been very helpful with...(cynical answers aside)...I appreciate it!!!

I've gotten killed many times thinking this was so... yet it still is fun to try to take down a GM flag holder!!! My tactics have changed (based on new knowledge) to picking up Shield flag to do this, and then hoping to shoot them in the pause this flag grants me or Stealthing up to them, where lock on is not useable. The back and forth movement suggested at the beginning of this thread has also been quite useful! It does work! Both on ground and in the air.

The server variable _gmActivationTime actually determines how far/long the GM has to travel before it "activates" and becomes lethal. It's there to prevent people from driving in to their own GMs, but if you're within that range, you'll be fine. Seems that most people just leave this as default, but when maps have slower GMs or faster tanks, this value is usually increased.

Also, if you have stealth, no one can target you anyway, so it's not quite so hard to avoid getting GMed.

Also, I meant that you were wrong, as in, you thought you could do something, but in reality you couldn't and did not realize it. I apologize, but I was not trying to insult you.

I'm more of a coward when it comes to such things. I jump behind a building and usually the bullet (think it can plow through brick) collides into said building.

It's quite sad considering how far it came and how long it took to lock on me - but for me this is the most fool-proof method of dodging one of those bad boys.

I like to wave my hands in the air, to distract the missile, ya know. Works about 20% of the time.

I've found that what you do depends a LOT on the speed settings on the server, the settings on the GM, and the settings on WG (especially WG jump count). On servers without incredibly accurate or fast GM, and have high numbers of WG jumps, best to just jump while moving forward so the missile goes out and dies behind you. Without a large number of WG jumps, simply do the same circling motion you would do on the ground. And if the GM is very accurate (as in circling doesn't work), and you don't have a lot of jumps, go hide behind a building.

Well a visit back... I recently learned that, that particular friend is a smart #*!...and stood back far enough to yank my chain that you could shoot down GM...as it was meant to time out right in front of me... LOL! He went on how good I was at it... oh man oh man. I fell for it. I admit it! Luckily, I have a pretty good sense of humor and see how funny that was now.

I am surprised that
1) a least one of you claim that 'jerking' has no effect
2) a least one of you claim it is impossible dodge GM with wings

Firstly, the jerk technique classically consists of travelling backwards while the GM approaches, then going forwards at the last moment. Why backwards first? To make the GM accelerate (turn) towards that way. Why suddenly forwards? Because GM is forced to turn the other way, but it has to compensate for both your forward travel AND that extra waste of turning it did when you travelled backwards.

Dodging with wings is easier than on ground. GM turn limit is obviously defined in 3D space, so jumping up or falling while 'require' the GM to turn up/down so that it travels less in the other axes.

I find if you've successfully shot it down, the tank that aimed at you usually moved on to another target visually and mentally, and you can then successfully kamikaze like attack the GM holder, tank, and he/she isn't expecting it, thinking he got you with that lock on button. I find it highly amusing to practice such things.
You can't "shoot down" a fired shot. The game does not check for collisions between bullets. What you seem to be stating is totally impossible as the game plays now and it will probably never be possible.
But it would be fun

I have had similar experiences when trying to shoot bullets. But it only works on the rare occasion that the enemies shot ends there where the two bullets would meet. Back then i found myself very lucky when i achieved this (unpurposely).
If you are trying to achieve this on purpose you probably have missed something, as shooting bullets isn't possible.

Dodging GMs tends to depend on wether you can spot the incoming missle in time to react to it
actually moving your tnk to avoid it is not that hard

correct me if im wrong :|
