No, that is not my shot range. that is the actual score. I have the 42 (or whatrever i posted) and my dad had -27 or whatever it was. its like saying "i had a score of 42 and my dad had a score of -27" in 7 charectors
instead of 37

Balance is key.

It completely depends on the map. If the map has lots of camping spots, limits are needed. If the map is wide open, let 'em shoot with impunity.
The current trend towards larger and more complex maps actually detracts from game play, in my opinion.

If you want to see a no limit map that plays extremely well, balanced, and fast, I suggest you slide over to Planet MoFo. There's great camping spots, but they're very vulnerable. Maybe a bit of lag, but you'll get over it.
Take a look at my Defender game mode concept.

Thinking is not an automatic process. A man can choose to think or to let his mind stagnate, or he can choose actively to turn against his intelligence, to evade his knowledge, to subvert his reason. If he refuses to think, he courts disaster: he cannot with impunity reject his means of perceiving reality.

i love limits

its a skill to use your bullets on a good way en effective and not to just shoot and shoot and shoot

if you have geno for example, and you just shoot allll the time at a guy till he jumps, and you kill him when he comes down, that isnt really cool(in my vieuw, people have different opinions)

at least its cool for the superflags, geno gm laser etc

maybe not for superbullet..but i like the idea => why i love hepcat

Wow, another old thread bumped. *sigh* May be I should become the "thread-bump police". lol

btw, BZFlag's super flags are more balanced with a shot count of 1. Shield becomes valuable, MG makes more sense, and rapid fire is awesome. Also, GM dwindles, SW is still good, but limited, and L is really sad.

I think reasonable shot limits are good. Say, fifty shots or so. That eliminates longtime campers on a good team. Unlimited shots give the players unlimited power, and a good player with GM can stay alive for the whole time that he is playing

Max shot limit is 20 shots. No such thing as unlimited either...
The only reason it seems like that is when the reload time is shortened.

Are you sure? I saw a 200 shot server once. I wonder how the graphical reload timer would look with 200 shots!

it realy depends on the map. on viper i like shot limits. but on mofo. i am glad there are none. shots limits do teach you how to conserver your shots. make them count.

there is/was a hack to do that, and there was a popular server that had a max of 500 shots but that was a while ago. You never ran out if bullets...

I definetely agree that shot limits are useless. Unlimited shots add to the variety of the game, giving the person with the shot some advantage. A skillful player notices disadvantages of every super flag and can use the disadvantage to easily kill that person. I see no reason at all for having shot limits on any map whatsoever.

Here is the configuration for my server. Map.bzw is the 2castles.map that I picked up from internet. People really seem to enjoy it. It does take a little admin, like if the power flags are in the hands of one individual too long, they need to be reset. But people seem to have the no-shot limits as well as 20 bullets at a time too. And the map kicks ass! Check it out at angel-one.cjb.net:5154

Xtra wrote:I see more and more hosted maps which have shot limits for GM, L and even SB. I think this makes BZFlag a whole lot less fun. It's great to be able to camp somewhere and kill people with impunity. It also makes other people want to kill you even more and they'll try everything to kill you off.
Camping takes zero skill and if I see you in a game you are going on permanent hunt, mister.

Permannet hunt

Post by DukeArchon »

And to add to his reply. Camping sets you up to be hunted by many players, and I feel that adds to the feel of the game. I just wish fewer people would choose to be rogues, teams are a lot better. JMHO

When there is no shot limit on those amazing flags thats where there it becomes chaotic.....good players dominate.......and takes the skill part out of the game where people with unlimited shockwave can just keep clicking like a noob and ruin the skill part of BZFlag.
Sorry if someone aleready said this. Please tell me

In my opinion, it requires more skill if there are no shot limits, because killing a camper is often hard.

I never make stupid mistakes. Only very, very clever ones.

His reasoning probably was that there are may players who love wings and once they get them are VERY skilled at using them. I can think of a few at secretplace like this. They are nearly impossible to kill by the average player. Having a shot limit on the wings flag makes them vulnerable at least from time to time ;).

I must say I am in favor of shot limits on maps. There are some positions on maps that are so strong that with the right flag you cannot ever be hit. Also it forces you shot conservation and you become more accurate and a better player in the long run. Anyone can run around spraying shots all over the place, your bound to hit someone. Can't do that with shot limits, you must pick and choose GOOD shots, it takes more skill.

shot limits are good because if you just held down on the shoot button then everyone on the server would die EVERY time they spawned so no one would play.
