WG Strategies

Post by dartman »

What are some of your strategies with the WG flag (in servers such as Hide 'N Seek Hills)?

I tend to fly high and look for players on the ground to kill, or I fight anyone else in the sky in a WG duel.

When I'm dueling with WG (high up) I try to get on top of my opponent and shoot them just above their tank, so I get the kill. I rise in drop in some kind of pattern, too: rise to avoid low shots and rise over my enemy, fall to avoid high shots and shoot my opponent. I swerve out to avoid shots at a medium height and swere in to fire, quickly swerving back out to avoid any shots my opponent sends my way.

Hills-style wings battle tips, from someone who plays too much:
  • Shots can go down faster than they can go up. Get above your opponent and fall while firing an arc or zigzag; this creates a 3-d pattern that is difficult to dodge.
  • Prefer to dodge horizontally rather than vertically. Remember your ducati training ;). Dodging "up" is slow in terms of velocity, "down" is slow because you have no starting velocity...your best manuverability is left and right and forward and back (see below).
  • Since shots have vertical velocity, you can dodge forward and back even when a shot is heading straight for you. This is something that most people are NOT used to. Running forward or backward can sometimes get you out of the diagonal line of fire when nothing else will do.
  • If people are shooting at you from two directions, just fall. Your opponents will probably engage each other, or else only one of them will continue coming after you.
  • If you can get your opponent down near the ground, it's fairly easy to create a really nasty situation for him by falling rather quickly and creating a shot pattern that passes through his general area twice...once on the way down and once after ricocheting off of the ground.
  • The same technique is great for eliminating people with L and GM. If they jump to avoid it just fly up at max speed and nail them at the top of their jump.
  • Never land on the ground, people with OO and CL hang out waiting for you to do just that ;).
  • Shooting people in the back is the best way to get points. No radar means they can't see you sneak up on them ;). Fly up around the edge of the map and move towards the center and pick off people at the edges of the main kill zone.

Thats some very solid advice!
Beware! I'm going to clone myself and spread those clones all over the world!

No, i dont think that it is at all like ducati in air. you can go up, down, and to any side

I, for one, play ducati next to never, and play the more chaotic mofo style. Wings there are harder to kill without laser or sw, and many people can dominate mofo with either wings or burrow, as burrow there is faster than a normal tank.
