Is there going to be CTF, FFA, and RC? CTF would be awsome with the War Zone graphics.

me1: We simply don't have the manpower to maintain two forks of bzflag at this point, and the dev team is really excited about wzflag. You're welcome to work on bzflag yourself, the source is still available. We think you'll be convinced once you actually start playing wzflag though :)

Cobra: I already posted about gamestyles. So far, Siege, TFFA, and FFA. We're working on the others.

the point was to combine resources. We only have like 4 devs also, it's just not enough. We can't split our efforts.

2.0.x will still be around, those that don't like the change can play it. Just like those that still play 1.10.x

The only problem is, there won't be that many people on the BZFlag servers. Also there wouldn't be as many servers. :(

Could there be a new game style be added? Fore example: Something like Conquest in StarWars Battle Front?

get me a beta, alpha, super pre alpha, or any version of wzflag and i might be convinced to change. ;)

relax, you must understand that this combination is no simple thing, and they still have many bugs and cincks to work out. one of which, is getting out a working version for people to test.

Cobra: Siege is a new gamestyle...one attacking and one defending team, very construction-oriented.

me1: When our svn repo goes live, you're welcome to check out the code. Be aware that it still doesn't work right on Windows, and there are a lot of glitches and crashes still...it's been no small task to get it to work well enough to start playing with. It'll probably be a few weeks before we have anything stable enough to build a binary and start showing off.

What you people see here is a very immature version of what we are cooking, soon I, or RPG_ will release a pretty playable (I think), version. Stay tuned :).

I will post more screenies soon

Ahh, i was looking toward BZflag 2.2...looking toward Bzflag 2.2...Are we going to have to say double u flag now? or is it pronounced weezee flag, just wondering :P the graphic capabilites for this will be almost endless, but Bzflag itself will change dramatically

Another thought, those graphics look really complex, have you guys ran double u flag on any medium-end computers? or will an ATI1200 and 192mb ram with a 500mhz processor be able to take it?

@Davy Jones

I suggested W (double U) Z-Flag. But RPG_ tells me its too formal. So WeZ-Flag (Wez like in Wizard) will probably be the official way to pronounce it.

As for playability on older systems, yours specifically, I don't think the gameplay will be enjoyable much. But its still playable.

/dev/urandom of the good Warzone team just approved RPG_'s suggestion. Its formally WeZeFlag. :)

Thank you in anticipation.
Your WZFlag dev team.

A full myspace page is being designed. Hopefully that will let the game gain greater exposure to a larger variety of people. The targeted audience will include all genders, religions, and ethnicities.

Web pages will be set up on the new site to support the various minority groups that WZFlag will attract.

We encourage diversity.

I read on the WarZone site that WZFlag is 3rd person. I hope that we will have a choice to go 1st person. I prefer that point of view myself.

The devs are planning on supporting both 1st and 3rd person.

This new merge looks great but I do have some questions.

Will you still be able to jump freely? As in without the need of a 'jumping flag'. I saw a screenshot that was taken and a tank had picked up a jumping flag - perhaps that was for a 'non jumping' server.

Will the controls be more alike to BZflag - or more alike to WarZone?

I've also seen a screenshot of where the terrain had lots of ditches and bumps in the ground. How would the tanks take it? Would they be able to climb both up and down the hills etc., with no problem at all?

Another is about the servers BZFlag has - Im sure they will be available in WZFlag but they will ALL look much much different won't they? More, realistic I suppose.

Im a little sad that such an already great game is going through such a drastic change - Though this doesn't mean that I am not really really excited that it is too. It does look like alot of fun but difficult too.

*The World holds their breath in wait for the release of WZFlag*

That's my big hurdle. I like BZFlag because it's simple and fast. I can sit down and play for ten minutes at a time and not feel like I haven't accomplished anything. It really helps me clear my mind on a lunch break or during coding sessions.

I'm going to hold on to 2.0.x for a long time, but I'm sure I'll spend some time trying out the new version. Someone needs to pick up and continue the 2.0.x branch, though, IMHO.

Heh, I was playing the warzone multiplayer demo before I found BZflag.

Seeing that the two are merging, it's odd, but cool!

The only reason I was playing a demo was because I couldn't find a copy anywhere
