BZ FLAG AND OX 10.5

Post by Malaria »

The current release of BZFLAG WILL not work with the latest 10.5 of
the Macintosh operating system.
Just as an FYI.

... and you know this how? Do you have a Mac OS X 10.5 developer beta? Or are you just guessing this?

Do not mock time travelers, for they can go back and inadvertently become one of your ancestors.

Yes, exactly. Even if the current Mac binary won't work correctly on what they have now for the unreleased OS X 10.5, I'm sure it will be corrected either in the OS release or in the next BZFlag release.

Compiling from source would surely still work, no need for rereleasing a binary immediately. :)

Though, Apple has managed to keep binary compatibility throughout OS X releases for the most part (some breakage from 10.3 to 10.4, but still pretty good overall).

That isn't true, I have the 10.5 developer beta and BZFlag 2.0.8 works great in it.

I don't know why, but the Windows version under Windows seems to run faster on my MacIntel than the Mac version under OS X.

I boot into Windows solely to play BZ.

I don't understand about the drivers. Is there a way to improve play under OS X?

Nice undershorts, BTW.

wait for apple to update/fix/unbork your drivers.

with apple, you are at their mercy as to when they choose you can get drivers, instead of geting them from the people that make the chipset.

so no, there is nothing you can do.

It's not always better on other OSs though. Someone recently was telling me that they could not up-to-date drivers for their new windows system and that bz was running a lot better in OS X.

indeed, it all depends on who has the better/worse drivers. Apple may have an advantage later in the game, if chip company decides to stop making windows drivers, where apple can still do work on them for OSX.

Dosn't help in this case tho :)
