BZFlag 2.4 Release Candidate 3

This build fixes some of the issues with -noTeamKills.
  • You can once again steal flags from your teammates with the Thief flag. In 2.4.2 we'll provide functionality (by plugin or built-in) to prevent stealing your teammate's flags.
  • You can kill yourself
  • Steamroller does not kill your teammates (nor does burrow)
Like other packages this version is incompatible with previous versions so you will need to play on upgraded servers.

I was wondering, could somehow it be possible for the update to be included in Update Manger on Ubuntu? Is that something down to BZFlag to organize or for Ubuntu to organize that?

We submit the update to debian, it is up to Ubuntu staff for when they update it in a shipping version

You could try contacting the maintainer for that package, which is the mailing list for Ubuntu's Universe repository. See the sidebar on the package page: http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty/games/bzflag

I have asked the debian maintainer to start the process if getting the package to debian, from there the ubuntu developers should pick it up.

Thanks both of you. Do you know how long it will take them?

Just for fun and while you wait for Ubuntu to add it to the repositories, why don't you try to build the new client from the source? This version is really easy to build because it needs only few external libraries, seems most of what is needed is wrapped within the bzflag package. Just download the source .tar.gz, extract the content and read the help file for Linux users. You might find that you only need to install a couple of libraries before you can compile the client yourself.

You can learn something in the process :)

It is not up to us for when they put submitted packages into various releases. An idea going around now is for us to host our own apt repository for just bzflag.
