BZFlag 2.4.10 "This is How We Roll"

Post by blast »

We are pleased to announce the release of BZFlag 2.4.10. Platform binaries and the source code are available for download using the following links:

Windows: https://download.bzflag.org/bzflag/wind ... 2.4.10.exe
macOS: https://download.bzflag.org/bzflag/maco ... -macOS.zip
Source Code: https://download.bzflag.org/bzflag/source/2.4.10/

This release had a few additional features and some minor fixes.
  • Multisampling support under SDL 2 on macOS
  • Added an option to invert one or both joystick axes
  • Add ability to reload badwords list with '/reload badwords'
  • It is possible for bzfs plugins to register new types of polls
  • Fix high DPI handling on Windows (again, since it broke when we switched to using SDL2)
The full Changelog is also available.

Enjoy!

The keyboard doesn't work at all in the game for you? Or is it specific keys? Do you use a non-English keyboard layout?

Now that you mentioned it, I'd like to report a strange issue.
On the new version, the "?" key doesn't work in game anymore. (german/austrian keyboard)
It's not a gamebreaking error and I don't mind it too much, but I thought there's no harm in pointing it out.

Edit: I use the Windows version, running Windows 10 to be exact.

What was the last version where this worked correctly? Is the ? key a direct keypress or does it require a modifier like shift to be held down?

I'm not sure what version I used before, but it must've been one of the previous two. (2.4.8 or 2.4.6)
Unfortunately, I deleted all the components of the previous version so there's no way for me to find out. >.<

For me it's required to press "Shift" + "ß" (sharp s) which only exists in german language and might therefore be an issue.

Yes, the game has always been limited to ASCII characters, and with the SDL 2 update we had to hack it somewhat so now apparently non-ASCII keys that give ASCII values when modified don't work. I'm brainstorming solutions for this, but you may want to try to build an SDL 1.2 version, continue using an older version, or just use a different key binding, depending on how much you need this.

Are you referring to sending messages? Are you talking about not being able to bind the key to actions?

Does this mean you're doing Shift + ß and the question mark doesn't appear in the chat?

Whenever your distribution packages them and pushes them into a release? We don't make binary packages for Linux.

As blast said, we don't distribute Linux binaries. What most Linux users do is build it from source following the instructions in the dedicated Linux README.

If those of you who were having problems with your non-U.S. keyboards on macOS could give this new build a try and let me know if it is fixed, that would be a huge help:

GREAT! :D Any idea of when any new major features will come out?

I've been working on a real-time stats site called BZList, please check it out! It is still in active development, so some features are missing and watch out for bugs.

Has anyone had a chance to test this on an international keyboard? If nobody responds with feedback then this change will be going into the next version as-is, so it would be very helpful for us to know whether the issue is corrected or not.
