BZFlag beta build 2.0.5b4

Post by DTRemenak »

Today we have 2.0.5b4.

Windows Installer
http://my.bzflag.org/builds/2.0.x/bzflag-2.0.5b4.exe
(requires DirectX 7+)

All current builds for 2.0.x will always be at http://my.bzflag.org/builds/2.0.x/

Linux and mac folk can, as always, build from anonymous cvs; see http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=3248 to download, and read the README for build instructions. 2.0.5 builds come from the v2_0branch tag; use -R v2_0branch.

Please report any issues you have with this build, even if you think we already know about them!

Thanks for your feedback.

I can give you shots from the CVS version, if that's new enough for you. (circa today)

What effects would you like captured?

It would be interessent if the server owners could put some mp3 musioc on their servers, and the clients would hear it, and could turn it off if they don't like the music... and what's -echo?

FX

Post by Oopsy! »

Either I'm completely delusional (not so far fetched ...) or the FX for "Shockwave" are different (and better looking) than in 2.0.4.
("Experimental" setting).

OK. JEff2501 I'll fill in for you...

The mp3 music thing has been talked about on several different posts. It would take large amounts of bandwidth and there is no method for delivery of that music at this point in time or anytime in the near future.

(does that sound about right Jeff :D )

OK here is what he really said...

JeffM2510 said:
1) damn ... old post.
2) a plug-in can't do anything to the client. We don't have a compressed music format, at all. So it's all moot.

this could not happen untill the audio system completely changes.

Shots of SW

Post by Oopsy! »

Strangely enough, the shots (even the original PNG files) have dithered shadows and jagged edges which I am sure the picture I see when playing has not. I am positive and have checked that the programs settings are set to "no dithering" and "experimental".
SW looks very "plastic bubble" now. Nice.

Well, anyway, good enough for you to see what I mean, I hope.

If this is not a new feature, how red will my face be?

(I even have my own "oops" smiley here.)

Flags

Post by Sharpshooter »

I like the new NR and SW in this new version, but i don't really like how the flags tilt down so much, and rotate. I think the flags should keep tilting down, and up, instead of rotating. The rotation of the flags doesn't make much sense because the wind can't shift directions every second, can it?. Also, I think it might be a good idea if a tank is holding a flag, for the flag not to be facing the way someone is looking, like this:

Alll of the cool 'new' effects are in effect ONLY if you have your Quality set to "Experimental" in Display settings. I made a comment to Trepan back when 2.0.5b3 was posted, about the droopy flags. Said he had somemore mods for the flags but hadn't commited them to the source code, so hopefully they will not hang as close to the stick, if they ever move from "experimental" to "High.

Yea, the NR is even more cool. Instead of that boring black sphere, it now looks better than the SW! It even reflects the sunlight in real time! Move the day backward (-) and see the reflection move, move it forward (+) and see it move, and move into night, my favourite time of day  , and see no reflection. Just a note, the only reason I like the night setting, is that I hate a bright screen in the middle of the night, so I advance it to night, and the screen gets darker. mmmm, darkness...

Something weird: when i open 2.0.5b4, the text is blurred. I also saw no config file when i installed it.
Could it be that i did the

Code: Select all

-set consoleFont
profont to get profont in 2.0.4?

scrn of 2.0.5 main menu.

Can you make sure you have the latest video card driver? I had a problem similar to this on my iBook, it didn't matter wether I compiled or installed the .app, it just didn't work in Linear rendering mode. Which sucked. Try resetting your graphics settings/toning them down.
