BZFlag 2.0.8 "Oops, Happy Mother's Day" Released

Post by JeffM »

The fourth and hopefully realy final maintenance release for the 2.0.x line has been released and is being uploaded to sourceforge and it's mirrors now

The windows, mac, and source installers can be found at
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... up_id=3248

[edited by learner on 2006.04.14]

The version is compatible with existing 2.0 clients and servers.

This is a bug fix update only. This release fixes the "spawn" bugs and some other big bugs that were found after 2.0.6. There are NO new features.

The only way for spawning to be fixed is when the server moves to 2.0.8 - servers make all the spawn calculations.

I'm not going to upgrade to 2.0.8 so soon after I downloaded 2.0.6. I'll only upgrade if there are new features that are really good. How many bugs are fixed?

I think the main bug fix was just serverside, though there could be important client fixes too. Look up the changelog (or whatever it's called).

Mac binary posted

Post by learner »

The Mac OS X download for 2.0.8 is now available for download as well.

This compilation should work on 10.2+, although still PPC-only due to network communication problems through Rosetta. This compile includes improved curl support, but if you get a communication error when joining a server, you will still need to cmd-opt-esc to get out and reconnect. The communication problem is being looked into and should be fixed for the next major release update.

This compile also (for the first time for Mac server operators) includes bzfs plugin support with all the sample plugins provided in the application bundle's Contents/Plugins directory. You can download the latest from the BZFlag project site on Sourceforge:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... _id=416688

Cheers!

MonsterMan++: why not upgrade? it's good to stay up-to-date, afterall AFAIK there is going to be a long wait before the next release.

there is a bug that will keep conetions open from your client, you should upgrade. if you run a server you should upgrade to get the new spawns.

2.0.8 also has code to help deal with client side functions generating fake lag spikes in the physics simulations.

certan functions (screenshot) in the game could make a lag spike on the client and cause the physics simulation to let you go thru objects. We made some changest to minimise that. It can't be fully fixed in the curent protocoll ( since the client is trusted ), but we did what we could to minimise it.

you can not remove lag. it is part of the internet. You can minimise it.

no lag changes were made in 2.0.8, you are probably just having a good day.

yes. 2.0.8 has the changes we can do for that and still remain comptable with the older 2.0.x versions.

please read the other posts, as they explained it already.

it's the fourth maintenance release.

we don't count the 2.0.0 as one, since it' is the one that we are "maintaining"
2.0.2 was first one.

it is the fith release in 2.0.x line.

Okay, sorry. My bad. :|
And to give this post a sense: I compiled 2.0.8 on my SuSE 9.3, it works wonderful and I am loving it. ;)

I like it! Not much different(as you said), but I like it!

Anyway, does this mark the start of the production of the 2.1.x line?
I'm thinking I need a better sig than this...
