my.bzflag type league site

Post by Winny »

I was thinking:

it can be a real pain to find another team to play, so:

Maybe there could be a site kind of like mybzflag that would organize players by team, so kind of like:

Team Fusion Players currently online:
Ducatiwannabe
Win Xp (server here)
Tanner (server here)

Eagle Squadron player curently online:
AlliedArmour (server here)
Grand Slam (server here)

and then so on...

Sounds like a neat idea! I'm all for it..

Would this be better in Enhancements or plug in releases or what?

If you could make a grouping config, put all the teams wit hthe members in there, and run the playerseach thing but with another colum for "team", it'll work.

This isn't really an enhancment to the bzflag game, but the playerseach

i think the way to do it, being that there is so many leagues, is to get all league admins to agree to use a php coded xml/rss feed that will make a list of users by team. this will allow all leagues to work together by letting players search by the league, then organize by team... that can work in conjunction with my.bzflag.org, or more likely the zee brothers site.

just the key would be getting the site to update the list every hour or 15 minutes with a cron job, this will lower the data use so no site loses more then maybe 2-4mb a month of bw to the listing.

You can check league-servers with:
http://guc.saturos.de

Or you use strayer's beta-stats-site which allows exactly what you were searching for.

@pyr0
There already exists a script for all 'web-league' based platforms that extract the player and team information from their database. (It's written by menotume...) I just combined these information on the site Saturos posted. ^^
Requesting the Ducati league site causes around 11 KByte traffic (much more than for Pillbox and GamesUnited). It's not that much...and I update the data only once a day.
