Stepping Stones

Post by Joe-Schmoe » Fri Aug 31, 2007 10:52 pm

Hi everyone,

Here's my first map so far...the basic idea is that all the boxes jump you up to another level.

http://joesmagicgathering.googlepages.c ... stones.txt

From the floor, you get bumped up to the large square in the center. From there, there are four routes you can take, each of which leaves you on a platform from which to snipe. I'm assuming the server would be "Mostly GM", since those platforms aren't much good otherwise.

The 8 large squares around the edge are just a quick way of getting back to the center (rather than driving).

You have to make sure that your mouse is in the dead zone when you land on a box...otherwise there's no telling where it will send you.

Some screenies:

All comments are welcome, I especially need to know if you find that one of the boxes doesn't send you where it should.

Very interesting!

Just wondering (its no problem if you can't)- are you able to attach the .bzw file? The same with the screenshots?

Sure, here are the same files in attachment form, sans the first screenshot due to the 4-attachment limit.

In other news, I plan to add another layer onto this map as soon as I get around to it.

Okay, here's the second layer I promised. I did prune a whole branch though, since it didn't really seem to have anything going for it.

Enclosed is a screenshot of a teleporter system. You get launched through the tele at high speed, and you careen through each other pair of teles really quickly until you arrive at the brick wall.

There's also a series of physics which send you around the four corners of the map, you can see two such boxes nicely in the second image.

Again if you notice any physics that don't send you in the right direction please let me know, I have tested each route but not extensively.

Add a water level at the bottom, and you have a fine Platforms map. :-)

Looks good though.

I thought this was cool idea, so I did it 8)

Attached is the map, with water. It has some pathways near the floor which it didn't have before, and the center area is larger (so that you always land somewhere if you spawn/land on one of the outer platforms). I made the corner platforms smaller, and now you always land on the first step up to the second layer. I also added some flags.

Now the name makes a bit more sense!

I tried running it (just to test) and I got this:

Code: Select all

warning (line 22): unknown object parameter "team" - skipping
warning (line 28): unknown object parameter "team" - skipping
warning (line 34): unknown object parameter "team" - skipping
The same went for line 40, 48, 56, 62, 68 and 74. In other words, your spawn zones.

Okay, I think I fixed it. I had "team 0 1 2 3 4 5", instead of "team 0 1 2 3 4". I guess I forgot that observers don't spawn!
