Columns & Rivers and Time Trial Available for Hosting

Post by LouMan »

Columns & Rivers and Time Trial are attached for hosting purposes. My server is not as fast as I would like, and I would prefer to see these hosted on better connections. The map files are fairly well commented as far as the meshes and map build. If you use these, please send a /report on one of my servers (louman.homelinux.net and louman.homelinux.net:5150) with your email address so that I might contact you with map updates and ideas for improvement on the maps.

I was thinking of making something like TimeTrials. But you already have it, and it looks great!

I've been to a server with time trial before!

That was awsome. I loved turning around and shooting people who jumped on!

Map Release

Post by LouMan »

One last note - if the map is used on a server, please give LouMan credit for the map on the public message for the server. It would be greatly appreciated

Yeah I'll be hosting a server with your Time Trial, except with less friction and more inertia. Look for it once I can take my Dell server and my new built computer off their funny connected-together setup.

Time Trial Settings, etc.

Post by LouMan »

Be careful with inertia settings - for some reason, grabbing a momentum flag on the track causes a wild, uncontrolled spinning reaction.

Also, the maps are running right now on my server (louman.homelunix.net and louman.homelinux.net:5150). Although I have a decent connection (cable modem with 256k up and 2 Mb down), I was hoping for a host with a better connection...

Thanks for all of the feedback and support - with this kind of reaction, I'll have to keep making new maps!

BTW - I use a text editor, AutoCad (for the layout) and LightWave (for the meshes) to build the maps .

If RPG is hosting one, you should have no problem hostign the other.

10 users run just fine on a 256 uplink. I could see you problem with two servers though...I would never try it :lol-old:

Map Hosting

If you do host 1 of the maps, I'll continue to host the other (whichever one you don't host). Thanks! :D

I ran into something on TimeTrials. I was heading down the track.. Jump off... landed on the transporter at the end of a turn and locked. I couldn't jump or move off the transporter frame.

Image If anyone doesn't see it you're probably behind a firewall.

I don't know if it's a map issue, a bug in bzflag or what but just thought I would mention it.

Map

Looks good - what is the box in the middle? Kinda looks out of place...

Again, thanks - when are you going to put it on the list server?

Hrm dunno
Was hoping to get more feedback on it from peeps first. That and I'm still dinking with it.
At my kids request I increased it to lotsa shots and was even playing with gravity a bit.

What is involved in getting listed public?
Do I need to do anything with setting up registered users and picking/setting up admin's. ETC...

Setting up the server to the public

Post by LouMan »

You do not have to set up groups and users if you do not want to. I have only recently added that feature to my servers, because I am having trouble keeping up with them; I am recruiting a few 'cops' right now.

Basically, once you add your -public and -publicaddr line to your .conf file(s), you should be seen on the public list server...

1) I'll look into going public right now and see if it's for me.
2) The box and pyramid in the middle is just for height. I like to get high ;)
3) Are you hosting any of you stuff on a cable modem and how does it effect your bandwidth for downloading/surfing when you're just wandering around the internet? How many users do you recommend on a cable modem? Going by the sticky on servers 5 to 8 users is about the most I should allow.
