Gamma Quadrant

Post by LouMan »

New map release: Gamma Quadrant. It is a sort of combination of Babylon IV, Twin Peaks and Island Hopping. It should be up and running at louman.bzflag.bz:2808 (thx Thumper!)

UPDATE 2/16/06 ---------------------------------

Attached is a Revision 1 of Gamma Quadrant.

Changes are as follows:

1- Changed the upper limit of the map (2000 meters, instead of 1000 meters).
2- Added force field over laser platform to protect laser shooters. The easiest way to take out a laser shooter will be to use one of the shockwaves located on platform below them.
3- Extended the range of the shockwave weapon (250).
4- Added shockwave shot limit of 5 to prevent camping under force field.
5- Added singular GM to top level of large platforms with a shot limit of 5. Range is not great, but this should add an interesting twist to gameplay.
6- Added circular energy thingy under the small platforms (same as large platforms).
7- Added multiple invisible barriers to try and keep players in the playing area. Not sure why some can get through (jitter?).
8- Brightened Saturn a little; there were some complaints of it being too dark.
9- Set _wingsJumpCount to 1000000. I hope that this is enough ;)
10- Set _coldetDepth to 8. This seems to improve fps by about 25%.

I have tried to remedy the lines through the galaxies and nebula for those running 16 bit video, but I have had no success so far. I have a feeling that it is related to the size of the map, but I am not positive. For those that are having trouble with the lines, I would recommend changing video format to 32 bit (Options -> Display Settings -> Change Video Format -> ***x*** @ ** Hz 32 bits).

Wow! Awesome!

I never make stupid mistakes. Only very, very clever ones.
It is not the fall that kills you. It's the sudden stop at the end.
Always remember you are unique. Just like everybody else.

Thanks for the nice words!

Note: if you notice lines through some of the background objects (e.g. galaxy), you may need to change your video settings to 32 bit (through Options menu). I will be investigating solutions that will allow compatibility with 16 bit video.

I think it's very nice.

I have a question...you can be at any height, at least on my computer, and drop or go higher and still be at the same "height" on the radar. Is it designed this way?

I played it a bit. Pretty fun. I wish I knew where the lasers were :)
