Moving objects in maps

Post by that exploding tank »

Is there a way to get, say, a moving platform in a map with bzedit?

There isn't a way to get a moving platform in BZFlag, much less BZEdit.

physics drivers can apply motion to tanks. The object itself does not move but it can cause tanks to move.

BZEdit has no method to add physics drivers, you have to add them by hand.

BZEdit32 is very old... 2005... I wouldn't mind if it got an overhaul so that it could do physics and stuff (zones and textures?)... Just a thought. :o

the bzedit project is dead, and will not be reopened. Support for the newer 2.0 features are included in the blender BZW tools plug-in, but it does have a steep learning curve.

What are the prospects of moving objects being added? I'd like to set up some kind of a Super Mario type of thing where you gotta wait for the platform to move near, jump on it, and let it carry you to a place you would not get to otherwise across the map... like to a camping spot or something, team base perhaps.

Could you "fake" it, and somehow put together a mesh with changing qualities (driverthru/non-drivethru) the appropriate physics drivers to move you along with the current solid part of the mesh, and a moving picture type that moves to match where the platform is... I know its a stretch.
...This has been a recording.

we can't have true moving objects until we have a fully synced server state and good lag compensation. you can't have one player computing a rico off a moving box, and another thinking it just missed, it would not work out well.

Where can I get the tools plugin? I looked on blender.org and found nothing. :(

Yay im not the only 1! :D

Blender is like that though, and Wings3d and others alike.

The finished product is worth it though.
