I'm just not sure. I know I could design an amazing map with that program, but would it be compatible? I just need someone who knows about that, and I need to figure this out before I get started on anything. PLEASE! somebody tell me.

can I use google sketchup to design maps?

This is not an issue of BZFlag supporting the program. Google Sketchup Pro can be used fine as a map editor, since it can export to OBJ, but the free one can not.
If you export to OBJ, you can use BZFlag's included modeltool program to transform the OBJ into a BZW.
