Flat Teleporters?

Post by Alex135 »

Ok, I know that teleporters are normaly alwase tall, and they are on there Z axis,
im wondering if there is a way to make the teleporter be on its X axis, and make it so that the teleporter is flat and so you could like drop through a teleporter.

Anybody know a way how that is possible? i know that someone used a special rotate command to make the World weapons be pointing down, and im wondering if that could be applied to teleporters, sadly i dont remember the command.

Any help?

Thx in advance :)

Last I checked, it was not possible, but the bzw manpage suggested that this feature could be implemented someday...

Under teleporters near the bottom of the man:

Code: Select all

"horizontal" # NOT IMPLEMENTED
Devs?

The man page is often not up-to-date, and there's the possibility of it being included in 2.2.x. That's why I asked...

I think

I think one of the reasons it was not implemented is the concern about maps that crash clients by having an "endless loop" teleport. Meaning you fall through one and then back into the one you first fell through and back again...ad infinitum.

it would not crash, it would just be endless. You could do that now with some very strategically places vertical teleporters

Errr..I have done it.

I have. When you do, one of two things happens:

1) Your tank gets stuck and/or client freezes.

2) Shots fired in lag entire server or crash it if volleyed rapidly.

Depends on speed of PC and how quickly your loop happens. BZ is still quite effective at glitching with both Nvidia and ATI cards.

Oh, I see what you were saying about the horizontal teleporters. You would go out the top of one, and fall back in.

That would be really bad map design, and therefore really shouldn't ever happen... and it wouldn't 'crash' BZFlag, becuase it would take several seconds to fall back down into the teleporter.

"bad map design"..."shouldn't happen"...Can you really use those phrases together in a sentence like that?
