It's not the fall that kills you - It's the sudden stop

This is very much still in early stages of development.

It won't be released until 3.0 comes, anyway, because those circular bases require 3.0, among other things. The bases rotate, as do the floating platforms.

Needs a name too....

Very nice! It reminds me a bit of Life on Mars. I hope the vacuum of space doesn't rip your space station apart. :P

hehe, I'll have you know, it's made of a super-strong carbon-oxyetharibogenicresin...ol.

Yeah, I took the 'dome' idea from Life on Mars, and made it a bit grander, and a bit more detailed.

Thanks for the comments everyone ;)

How big is the map? It looks huge in the screen shots.

The circle has a radius of 500, which means an area 785398 units^2. This is in comparison to the standard play area, 800*800, area 640000 units^2. So a little bit bigger than normal.

I think the vastness of the dome above makes it seem bigger than it is.

Here's something i've been working on - it's a makeshift 'plasma ball'. I don't know if it will make it into the final version... I'll find some good screen capture software and take a video later, seeing as it's animated - you can't really see how it works without a video. You can imagine what it's like for now.

Like the plazma balls when you touch it and all the strings move towards where your hand is? If so, very, very cool work.

Is it possible to make that with 2.0.X bzw objects? or something new in 3.0.0?

It's done with objects available in 2.0.x - although it does use some 3.0-specific dynamic colors. But these could be ported back to 2.0.x if needed. That said, I don't think I will. This map won't be ready for ages.

The plasma ball is done with animated drawinfo, to simulate the moving arcs of electricity, some texture matrices to make the arcs look somewhat realistic, and some dynamic colors to make them flicker on and off.

It's attempting to look somewhat like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcI8ihPkqs8

you take bzflag mapmaking to a completely new level!!!

chapeau!!!
  • definition: chapeau! is often used as a generic expression of approval and appreciation in Europe as a sign of admiration or respect, one shall indeed remove his hat.

Very, very, awesomely, cool. I like the plasma ball, its a cool concept. You said something about spinning... are there spinning, non drive-through DI objects in 3.0? That would be nice.

Very good map, hope you are able to complete sooner than anticipated :D .

I use passable drawinfo to make things look as if they are spinning, and then Physics Drivers on invisible solid objects to make people feel as if they are spinning with the object.

Thats a good idea... me likes it. But there are no solid DI in 3.0?

If there were he would have used them. DrawInfo has never been solid and still won't be in 3.0 .

Noesss. :D Do you think that will be implemented in the foreseeable future? It would add such a huge level of gameplay.

But you would have to make it so that a DI objects path is no longer exclusively spherical, as it would be weird to hop on a box in orbit... very weird

Incredibleness! I was thinking of posting a map that I just made, but it pales in comparison to this.
 Amazing!!
