Here's a video of what's going on.

Due to various reasons, I haven't worked on the map for a few weeks. However, new development will be going ahead in the coming weeks.

Spazzy McGee, you have taken a seat LouMan's table of the best map makers in the universe. Awesome work.

by far the best map I've ever seen, prolly too complicated, but some cool eye candy would be if the earth could spin, a moon revolve around the earth, and a sun revolve around the map. They'd probably be moving so slow though no one would really notice, but it would give a cool effect when the sun or moon would go behind earth or eclipse each other.

The Earth is just a texture in that map, as part of a sky box more than likely.

Spot on. The earth is a skybox that I made from some NASA images - and there is a moon: it's quite small though, as it's still quite far away from the earth. I tried to keep distances looking reasonably accurate.

This is amazing. The one thing I'm worried about is that often circular maps or maps with lots of texturing aren't popular or just aren't fun to play. But this is truly beautiful. Now 3.0 needs to be released.

How many have been made? I know I've made at least two of them - and yes, they weren't that great.

Just thought that I would update you all: The maps is pretty much finished, as far as I see it. From here on in it'll probably be just tuning everything to look nice. I'm just waiting on the release of BZFag 3.0 before I release it properly. That said, I'm sure i'll keep thinking of new things to add, and new ideas to try (which is what this project has been all about) before 3.0 eventually rolls around.

I haven't got a clue how the map itself will actually play - I must admit that I designed this mostly with the eye-candy in mind, but we'll see how it goes. That said, it showcases pretty much every new map feature available in BZFlag 3.0, so at least in that sense it could provide interesting play.

Screenshots and maybe another video coming soon.

A happy new year to you all, and thanks for all your kind comments. Here's to hoping we'll see a new generation of great maps this year (I'm holding out for a dash of louman's magic).

Tried it out for a few minutes and it is unbelieveable! I love the jumpers and the team-only teleporters. Magical...

Speechless.....

And I thought the video looked cool!!

After Bambino posted saying he tried it out, I fired up my 2.99.x client and tested the map.

Simply amazing... I have to agree the round bases and team only teleporters add a VERY nice touch.

Personally, I really like all of the texturing and can't imagine how long it took to make!

Wonderful job Spazzy.

With SVN r20710, I've added the noRadarOutline parameter to
materials (which works for both mesh face links and bases), and removed
the linkSrcNoRadar mesh face parameter. This could help you clean
up the look of the team bases in the radar (all those outline segments...)

If you used bzfs -setforced radarStyle 3, you can do some interesting
things with the radarSpecial property (which requires one of the 'fast'
radar modes). It allows you to render textured objects into the radar.

You might consider setting your "electric lines" (both types), to noRadar.
