Language Translators Wanted

Post by MrApathyCream »

BZFlag is in the process of being internationalized. As a first step we will be able to support the basic single byte languages, such as German, French, Spanish, Italian, etc, etc.

I am looking for foreign language speaching translators that would be willing to provide reasonable translations for the words that show up in BZFlag. I have a file that contains the strings that need translating.

Currently I have a done a localization for l33t, (the only 'foreign' language I know). You can see it work in the current cvs by running bzflag like

bzflag -locale us_EN_l33t

There is a particial one for german that can be seen with

bzflag -locale de

If you would be willing to help, I'd appreciate it. I would just send you a file, and you'd fill in the blanks.

This is going to be annoying, does this mean you have to reference some funky number or something when you want to use a string somewhere?

Nice idea. You can send me one, I'll translate into Dutch 8)

My wife's Chinese so maybe she could do the Mandarin once you have support for 2-byte characters.

ohh, I looked at the code, I guess that isn't as painful as I was thinking it might be. I was thinking I guess of some microsquash code

GetString(IDS_BZFLAG_OPTIONS);
GetString(IDS_BZFLAG_JOIN);

compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile compile

If the developers are so gung-ho on this International kick, then how about the following languages...
  • Official StarTrek speak (Klingon, Vulcan, Romulan, etc...)
  • Latin
  • Egyptian Hieroglyphs
  • African Bushmen (Swahili, Zulu, etc..)
  • Eubonics
Of course I'm just kiding. ;)

Klingon! They've actually made an entire language (there's dictionaries and everything!) out of it!

French Available

Post by MrApathyCream »

Thanks Valoche,

Here's some links to view

Unfortunately at this time, BZFlag can't handle accents, so while they remain in the dictionary file you sent, they are removed in BZFlag. Hopefully we can fix this soon.

Thanks again.

The proposal to put klingon into Unicode is her, but it was rejected. The KLI has some information.
