ouch, you have a bad job. i agree wth the 'unchecked as default' option, because i'm at a friends house right now and i almost forgot to uncheck it. geez, my entire callsign down the drain. anyways, i like the feature because whenever i check the boards i don't have to enter my info.

You don't have to turn off the checkbox if it is strictly YOUR computer. I have a family computer and I have it remember my nickname because nobody else in my family uses BZBB and I'm not worried about one of them 'hijacking' my account. I believe all it is is a cookie stored in your cookie library.

Ya know modern Operating systems have things called "USERS" that let each person who use the computer have their own settings and data. It's amazing what they come up with these days, next I expect somone to say that they can send people to the moon.

It's not a setting I can change, it's imbeded in the php, and at this time I am very resistant to changing the code for phpbb, for real security reasons.

If your on a public system, you should be turning off storage of cookies anyway so the checkbox dosn't matter. But I will mention it to the admin group and see what we can do, but at this time it is a very low priority item in the scope of all the other things that must be done.

You know, I think that same concept may have been around for a few decades. The majority of these public terminals do require specific networked user accounts. Those public terminals set up with common "guest" accounts may have been set up that way for other reasons besides gaming inconvenience. i.e.: security issues, software management, school board policies, scripting, and interface consistency. Were you aware that most high school boards prohibit individual student accounts? And some colleges are the same. Also, many colleges don't provide user accounts because of the pain of setup and management when students use hotmail and yahoo instead.

Yes, you should, and it does get turned off normally during the installation processes. However, some people like to change their browser settings. Oddly enough, that capability seems to exist in almost every browser. Also very oddly, that setting is not necessarily stored in the individual user settings, depending on the browser, it may be stored as global settings for that machine. Also, most browser installs default to storing cookies, and they have to be turned off manually, a step which is easily overlooked despite checklists. When installing to hundreds of computes at once, it can easily be overlooked, even when building a common "image" for distribution.

I was just looking at the phpbb site info, and it appears that the default behaviour for phpbb is to not have this checked by default. There is even a published hack to change it to be checked by default here.

Hey, if you can't do it, just say so. I can live with that.

It's an onclick event on each table cell in the index and forum view. I personally dislike that on forums I visit, because it requires me to right click and choose "Open in New Window" on each forum/topic.
