For those following the primary list server migration, I'm glad to report that we should now be fully migrated and operational again.
As many noticed, there were some intermittent downtime issues over the past two weeks as we moved the primary BZFlag list server (which includes this bulletin board website and associated web services) to a different host server on a different network. As the new list server was configured, tested, and brought on-line, several issues were encountered including e-mail functionality, responsive performance, a distributed denial of service attack, and uptime stability.
All of those issues have been addressed and fixed with our primary services now all responding again as expected. The migration involved a fair bit of service upgrades and configuration tweaking due to the network and processing requirements of our public services. As such, intermittent downtimes were experienced on the list server, league website, and this bulletin board over the past two weeks.
That said, we should now be fully operational again and on a somewhat faster overall configuration. Please report any further outages or issues noticed to the BZFlag IRC channel (preferred) or on here on the bulletin board. Thank you everyone for your patience through the migration.
Cheers!
Sean
Primary list server migration complete
additional memory installed
Interesting stats there strayer.. sounds about right with all the scheduled and unscheduled outages. The DDoS attack alone was about 4 hours; everyone that could respond to the attack was asleep when it started.
On a mildly related note, the server went through one additional reboot today so that additional memory could be installed. This upgrade should provide additional performance improvements and allow for additional security checks.
Cheers!
