Check on the BZFlag Wiki, as it has a map making section.

I have the exact same question: How the heck do you make your own server?I tried BZserver once but when I finished, I figured out that the server worked on only one computer... mine. :? :? :?

Use more emoticons next time. It will help you get more responses.

First of all, you must realize that setting up your own public server is a big project. If you just want to show off your mapping skillz, there are people that will host your map for you, for all the world to see. Try using this method, if you want your map hosted quickly and easily.

If you really want complete control over your hosting, you will need to host it yourself, though. And somebody determined enough to do that should be able to do their own research.

Nothing against NN, but creating a public server with just any map isn't really a good thing long-term. Per this graph, there are around 350 public servers listed (nearly a third of them hosted by NN), and there are rarely players on more than 20 or so of them. So many servers make it difficult to navigate the list and generally clutter things up.

If you want to publicly list your map, you should be willing to put in the time to make it successful. This means hanging out on the server where it's hosted for long periods of time, so others will join and try it out. You will likely also have to make adjustments to improve playability after players try it out and make suggestions. You should also be willing to cut the server if it proves unpopular, so that you don't add to the hundreds of inactive servers currently on the list.

This isn't meant to discourage you--if you want to give it a shot, then contact a hoster and try it out. However, please be sensitive to all the list server users out there, and don't leave another stale server out there.

Thanks.
