How Can I Use Server Comands?

Post by clarahobbs » Sat Feb 16, 2008 3:16 pm

I have seen a lot about server commands (those things like "/poll", "/me", "/report", etc.) and can't figure out how to use them. If somebody could help me, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

You join the server, and type the command.. (Although some commands take administrative status, or they might be disabled in the group file.)

For example..

If I wanted to poll ban someone, I would type:

/poll ban <username>

You can see http://my.bzflag.org/w/Commands for more information.

Oh! You type them at the chat prompt. Thank you very much.

That's something that's confusing at first... when I started playing, people were telling me to type "/lagstats", and I had no idea that I had to hit 'n' first.

One thing that might solve this problem is mapping '/' to an effective "n/"... can't remember who first suggested that.

Gaining Admin Privelages

Post by dragonomous » Mon Mar 10, 2008 9:42 pm

I host a local network server for a computer lab. All the commands I want to do require admin privelages. How do you add a user to admin group or whatever else it is that you have to do to get admin privelages? Thanks!

for a local server put "-password youpassyhere" in the config, or at the end of bzfs.exe or bzfs in the command prompt, and type in /password yourpassyhere ingame to get admin privileges. ONLY use this for local servers, and if you plan on making a public (like, over the interwebs), do not use the password command.

Thanks for the help, is there a default config file I should modify or do I need to make one?

I'd say just make a new one. Run 'bzfs -help' from a terminal (or command promt) to get a list of parameters you can use. The BZFlag wiki probably contains a sample configuration file.

Thank you, I do have a list of all of the commands, however I am unable to figure out how to point bzfs to a config file.

bzfs.exe -conf Path\to\conf

use quotes if there are spaces: i.e.:
bzfs.exe -conf "C:\Documents and Settings\me\My Documents\BZFlag\awesomeworld.bzw" (on windows)

Awesome! Thank you. Now I've got a new problem of not being able to get into the game when I connect, so I will start a new thread on that. Thanks again!
