Local Host Admin

Post by JohnNick1111 »

I've been playing BZFlag with a few friends on a few computers, and i've been trying to control the admin commands. I read a file saying how to enter the commands (ex: /countdown, /kick, /reset)

everytime i enter a command, i get an error message something like "you do not have authorization for this command"

how do i fix this. I'm playing on a server that i started, and i log in as an admin on the admin prompt, but it wont let me do anything except send messages to all player.

? anyone know what to do ?

thanks

You have to add a /password to your config file or the command line.

If you want to be an admin on a local test server, just add this command-line option when you run the server:

Code: Select all

-password hi
Then when you connect to the server, say this:

Code: Select all

/password hi
Then you will be an admin.

Also, if the /password has more than one word you need to use "quotes"

Code: Select all

-password "hello you"
then you enter

Code: Select all

/password hello you
in game and you will be admin there.

For countdown, you need the recordmatch plugin. i'm not sure if you already have it running. another solution without a password is setting up global groups. http://my.bzflag.org/w/Setting_up_a_group_file

so if I have a conf that works, i dont have to set up all the public stuff?
at school whenever a server is started, we can connect using localhost instead of an IP or anything. Could I just start a localhost server withought configuring the public settings?

Um, no, it's 2009 right now, so these are from this year.

Anyway, to answer your question, no. You won't use 'localhost' to connect different computers to a server on a LAN. You have to use the actual IP of the computer. Localhost refers to the computer you are currently on.

And you still need a config of some kind. Doesn't have to be anything too fancy, but unless you just want a random map with 1 shot, no rico, and no jumping, you need to specify options to bzfs. ;)

I have a conf that works, and I have all the configurations that I want. All that I want is to be able to Kick and ban people that are obnoxious, or do really stupid stuff as that is a real problem.
