You can use Wings3D and/or Blender too, if you like, or edit code in a simple text editor...

Host it privately. Search the forums, read the man pages and wiki...

Paint?!

Blender has a very steep learning curve - personally I think Wings 3D is the better option if you're starting out modeling. It's got a much more intuitive interface (though you can do less with it), and is easier to learn 'hands on' by fiddling around.

It really depends on personal preference. Personally, I'm a BZEdit guy. Everybody's going to have their reasons for why you should use the program they use. My experience: use the one that works best for you. If the simplicity of Wings3D is good for you, cool, work with that. If you want more complex things such as Blender, shoot for that.

As I said, I'm kinda... outdated. Old school. Whatever you want to call me. Wimpy? :D I use the good ol' BZEdit and handcoding. Course, I'm no expert like Spazzy Mcgee or others I know... but it works ok for me I suppose.

I also find BZEdit helpful, because I can position everything really quickly. But past that there isn't much BZEdit does for me. And I think that if you take some tutorials and just generally play around in Blender, it'll be less intimidating.

I never make stupid mistakes. Only very, very clever ones.

I personally like BzEdit, I don't like complex structures- i like the simple. For example hepcat was made in bzedit and gu servers ( I think). I think BzEdit gives a good result and its easy too use!

BZEdit is not the thing giving the good result - it is your imagination. Maps will only be as good as you imagine them. BZEdit is just a tool to make what you imagine.

Too true. Though, if you imagine big, this is where the right program falls in.

BTW this is a really old topic :P What's going on here.

This is back when I hadn't the slightest on making maps
