less registered players...

Post by Davy Jones »

it has come to my attention that most of the bzflag population doesn't know how to register here, Would it be possible to let them know that they can get more powers if they register at the site, most of the time i find out, is during a poll, half the people are going "how do i vote" and then we tell them they have to register, and they ask "where"

Is there any way to put in a server msg that tells them to register, you might also want to note that registration is free, as i've found a few people who think "this costs money"

Of course, most people know it's free, but some don't.

I myself didn't know about the forums until later, so maybe have it more visible in the client

Any server can set the server welcome message and server ad message how they wish. It is the responsibility of the server owner. But it's a good idea for server owners to add global registration info.

Adding more global registration details to BZFlag have been planned for 2.2. I even heard something about a screen in the Windows installer about registering and a little more help in-game. Of course, being that 2.2 is still in development, this could all change... ;)

A few servers run the nagware plugin to get players to register. it works very well for popular servers (i.e. silvercat) but for smaller games it's more likely to drive players away.

Why not include that in the "message of the day"?

It is rather difficult to change the message of the day. That's why it hardly changes.

work is being done on having 2.2 know if a user is unregistered, and helping them register.

we want to make the game help you play itself :)
