Has anyone played Warzone2100? We found a demo of it, and was addicted to it immediately. After we found out how to play over network,
we played for hours. The tanks are spitting images, so are the graphics.
I am really psyched about this branch, and cant wait to start playing.
A few questions and ideas;
How much of warzone are you gonna incorporate?there were lots of aspects to it, like factories and research, unit types and such and such.
I could see VTOLs replacing jumping. You gonna get that in?
Howabout the map tool for warzone? will that be compatible? (if it can be found)
OK, starting to think I aughta goto the warzone forums for further questions. You rock programmers!

I for one support the devs' decision to merge with warzone. Bzflag will benefit greatly from the added functionality. I can't wait for an alpha to be released.
In fact, I wonder if I could join the dev team to speed up the development.
If not, I'll wait along with everyone else.

You don't just "join the dev team"... There would be way to many devs on bzflag just cause they would want to be called dev.The Vaxorcist wrote:In fact, I wonder if I could join the dev team to speed up the development.

The best thing you can do is make patches and submit them. If your code works it saves the devs a lot of time, especially if it's in the TODO list.

Yeah - I knew that. But the wzflag source isn't available yet.BinarySpike wrote: You don't just "join the dev team"... There would be way to many devs on bzflag just cause they would want to be called dev.
Maybe I'll wake up tomorrow and find wzflag is just a joke.

heh.
the joke got lots of people, i was laughing in my seat.
honorable mentions
massive applause goes to the people who made the joke, for managing to be creative enough to come up with something believeable even though an april fools joke was expected.
dishonorable mentions
constitution, for coming up with a plan to foil the joke ( i think ) whereby he steals the entire bzflag project
i am stilll laughing in my seat
gj all

You got me too!
But I didn't think that there will be another april joke, because it was already 2nd April here.
Well, I'm really happy that it was a joke.
Congratulation for your joke,
patlkil!

You must have been blind, it was their front and center news story!!! It was great to have the two projects team-up to trick everyone. Look again davy, it is now says "(April fools hoax)" in the title of the story. http://wz2100.net/Davy Jones wrote:lol, i had suspected it was a joke, as i saw nothing about the merge on the warzone site, april fools everyone!

It doesn't seem that you have a news-comment function, so I post here, because it seems to be the most prominent thread about this topic (and the most fun one).
I'd call it a modified BZFlag client/server showing GIMPed Warzone screenshots setup using cheats and hidden features.
Thanks again to DTRemenak for providing the incredibly usefull patches!
This is actually not completely correct.Thank you to the Warzone 2100 folks for suggesting and collaborating on the effort (and yes, those were mostly real screenshots and a real client).

Actually the screenshots were taken in "WZFlag," hence the lack of editing artifacts. Basically a modified Warzone screenshot was taken, and rendered onto a textured quad beneath the wzflag (i.e. bzflag with the name changed and this screenshot-faking capability added) HUD, with potentially another overlaying the radar (though I think DevUrandom decided not to use that one).
Props to the Warzone 2100 team for kickstarting the collaborative effort! It's been a pleasure working with you guys

LOL, yeah I had quite a following on the IRC channel. Hope nobody's permanently upset at JeffM2501, heh. (Check out http://purl.rikers.org/%23bzflag/20070402.html.gz at the end of the day today... it's quite funny)the_j0k3r wrote:dishonorable mentions

I wasn't sure if it was a joke but when I saw the changes on www.bzflag.org...
Nice joke and i admit it's easier when you can change the website.

Yes, well, my post was edited to remove the statement "...and assuming this is not an aprils fools joke..."
Who did that I wonder?
Jeff's insistence this was real, and especially his 'crusade' against Constitution's fork, had me thinking it was real after all.
Nice one.
Oh, and for the record I would have stuck with Constitutions fork!

Yeah, nice one. Although I came looking for an april fool that morning you had me thinking one or two minutes if it might be true. After coming to the conclusion that it wasnt, I decided to join the joke to trick some of the newer ones (who dont know that you always do veery elaborated april fools). Well done, again!
