Coming Soon (Hopefully) - Home Sweet Home

Post by LouMan »

The attached screenshots show a few previews of the new map I've started, called "Home Sweet Home". It is a giant version of a roughly approximated house (my own). The map is about 75% complete and will have about 50+ textures associated with it. So far, the textures total around 2 MB. There are about 8k polygons as it stands right now and I have been getting very decent fps from it at this point. I haven't decided on game mode yet, but I'm leaning towards a 2 team 'Keep Away" style with predictable zone flags in every room.

LouMan, you have done it again.
It's looking excellent so far.
Can I ask roughly what scale the tanks will be, say, compared to the kitchen cupboards?

Unless I decide otherwise, it will take a normal tank jump to reach the surface of the kitchen table and another jump (less high) to reach the countertops. The countertops (as it stands right now) cannot be reached by a single jump. The countertops are about 20 units (meters) up from the floor.

Quite a piece of art! Nice work. I wonder what playability will be like.

Wow. Just... wow.

That's gotta be the best modeling I've seen for BZFlag since I joined here.

I really like the octagonal deck.

I never make stupid mistakes. Only very, very clever ones.
It is not the fall that kills you. It's the sudden stop at the end.
Always remember you are unique. Just like everybody else.

You should put a model of yourself, either on the deck, the computer, or sofa ;)
Beware! I'm going to clone myself and spread those clones all over the world!

And write your name on a piece of paper. And have a picture frame with you in it. And.. :P Just kidding.

Sounds like the size factors will be most interesting. As Spazzy Mcgee said, not your visually best, though it is still very good. This one seems to be more of an exploration than eye candy or super playability, though. Which is fine, really, because whenever my sisters get on they just explore big maps and avoid fights. Lots of peeps like that.

Keep up the good work.

Well, I think you just dazed everyone with that map of yours, including me.

Amazing, and it does look just like a house, with a few minor exceptions. The most "texturized" and detailed map I've ever seen. Great job. :)

awsome map.

We finally get to see the secret lair where the genius works. :o :)

Is there going to be a room that looks like a smaller size of your other map "loumans desktop"?

Actually, the 'secret lair' is in the basement which is included in the map. My computer desk, PC, etc. is not included due to constraints I'm running into with polygon counts. Most other major furniture is included (approximated in most case). Also, the Monet and Van Gogh paintings that will be on the walls are not actually in my house ;)

I've added a few more features today (moldings, shutters, paintings, etc.) and I cleaned up a few modeling errors. The polygon count is approaching 10k so I'm not going to add any more significant items to it. I should be starting the map debug within a few days.

btw - the Desktop map was purely fictional; this is closer to what my house really looks like.

As always, thanks for the encouraging words :)
