Boxy War Laser Sniping

Post by Grans Remedy »

Howdy,
I would like to host this map for us southern hemisphere laggers, as we lag way to much to play.

But I cant seem to find it released here.

Does anyone know who made it, and whether they've released it publicly?

Cheers

Thx Grace, I've PM'd him. Are you a boxy fan or would you rather see a Hix map next there?

Boxy War was created by BinarySpike. Don't know where you could find it, though :-(

The original Boxy War was created by BinarySpike. Since then many changes, vital to improving the gameplay, have been made by others.
Who really owns rights to the map now it s uncertain.

Indeed. Something like a mix of Meteorite, Binary, and Win XP if I'm not mistaken. Maybe a couple others.

And if I'm not mistaken this wasn't released here for the reasoning of bzfx desiring to be the only host.

Binary + TDLinux, if memory serves. WinXP may have done some of the logo work.

It wont happen unless you host it as part of the bzfx network, even then you wouldn't be allowed to own the server running it, meteorite would have full control of it.
But i doubt it will happen anyway, because i think as the server owners they prefer the crowd not to be split between 2 different boxy servers, they want it all localised. (perhaps part of the reason why they dont want it released?)
my 2 cents ;)

Ah, yeah, I got your PM but I've been pretty busy to reply to it.

Hosting Boxy War on a second server is a viable option since we are out of a server (again). Just as long as the rules/administrators/etc are in accordances with BZFX.

On the east coast, its 2:00 A.M. when it's about 3:00 P.M. in Austrailia. I don't think many people in the U.S. (even on the west coast) will still be playing bz. It would only help the Aussie players in helping to reduce their lag.

I guess what I'm saying is that the Aussie servers will only become popular while everyone in the U.S. is in bed (hopefully).

And Meteorite, you just can't buy yourself a break with servers, can you?

Thanks A Meteorite, I have sent you another PM. Server rules etc are fine and am happy to make your cops, my cops. So if you're happy with what I mentioned in the PM, can you send me a PM with the map attached?

Cheers
