Random Crashing
I have a problem. Occasionally, while playing BZFlag, the game crashes. No error report , nothing. It just closes. (And no, My hands were NOWHERE near the f12 key). Does anyone else have this problem?
The Pen is Mightier Than the Sword.
Okay, you get a Bic, the orc gets a long sword.
He cuts the Bic in half.
Then he cuts you in half.
Oops, I meant quarters.

More info is needed to help you... You should try the suggestions blast and learner posted. Also try running from a command line with a few debug levels (-d) and pastebin the output after a crash.
Merry Christmas!

if its windows...
This isn't a common problem. 2.0.8 seems to just randomly crash indeed. And for those of you with the cliche and laconic 'wittisim' of "get a real OS"
its not an OS related issue. Bzflag never did this for me before 2.0.6/4 iirc. and I've used all the mainstream OSes, and all windows OS.

Beware! I'm going to clone myself and spread those clones all over the world!
Have you tried one of the 2.0.9 builds for windows?
These are "unofficial" builds that JeffM2501 compiled: http://beta.bzflag.bz/builds/2.0.x/

Whether it runs better on Linux is not the question. The suggestions have been both for Linux and Windows (since we don't know which). BZFlag is written to run on Windows. Technically, it runs equally well on both, as long as everything is working correctly. Most people do not have much choice in their OS, that point has been hammered many times on these forums. The real thing that drives OS choice is your comfort level and the apps you need/want to run.
Please be helpful and quit suggesting that people should switch to Linux to solve issues that really aren't OS dependent.

Actually it appears to me that the issue of random crashing on 2.0.8 is related to the windows build. I know of three people that run 2.0.8 on windows and have random crashes. I have not had bzflag 2.0.8 or 2.0.9 crash on linux. Hopefully the 2.0.9 windows build has resolved the issue.
I'm not saying it's the OS, just this 2.0.8 windows build. possibly.

Mine Crashes Randomly Too
Mine also crashes randomly too -- on linux. I am using 2.0.8 on slackware
linux and i've tried many different things but i've come to the conclusion its
the bzflag program. It's infrequent but it does happen from time to time.
It's not enough to annoy you typically.

Smooth: people dont like it when you post on old topics (thread necromancy!)
as for your random crash problem... i had it too, i fixed it by getting the latest version of the libraries BZflag uses (libCURL, etc.)
