annother new map
annother new map
i have an idea for a map. it would be sort of an inside of a store. i figured it would be fun and original seeing as its not a reoccuring thing.
i was just wondering how many people would think this is a good idea and would want to play it

LouMan rocks, that much is true. But there are certainly other mappers capable of creating such a map.ducktape wrote:would you make it your would to talk to Lou Man?

What sort of scale were you thinking of?
For example, how big would the tank be in comparison to a can of baked beans? or compared to a human..?

Okay, now that you have a basic understanding of what the size will be, you should make a drawing or plan to figure out what objects there will be. Counters? Tables? Food? All this should be in your plan before you dive in head first.
And a 7-11 type map won't be easy. It sounds even harder than "Home Sweet Home".

i know. all i have done is make the basic box figureA Vicious Muffin wrote:Okay, now that you have a basic understanding of what the size will be, you should make a drawing or plan to figure out what objects there will be. have you decided if it is a ctf or ffa map yet?
i would like a base with walls made out of stacked twinkies or zebra cakes... just to add to the "inside of a store" feeling the map should have

to answer both i could go either way... i could make bunkers with twinkies (after all they can resist nuclear warfare) or make mase walls with zebra cake. im also thinking of incorporating the ceiling and making a portal hidden in a cooler.
and yes im going to try and tackle this on my own

about your concern on materials repeating instead of stretching. you are right but there are ways around it. there are textureMatrix which will kinda work. textureMatrix are ways of manipulating materials. that is how you make materials move, you can scale them to the size you want. but if you are making a mesh your best bet is to make a texcord. basically this is like making a face but you assign an image to the face. so make your face like i know you know how to do. then add texcord
and the rest of the code looks just like it does when drawing a face. Tedius had a great post on this subject! here it is.

have fun. and please expect to take a year or so on this map. don't think you are going to spit it out. you're going to learn a lot from doing this! enjoy it!! if you have any questions, search for them first, if you still don't have your answer

And why are you singling out LouMan?ducktape wrote:Wow, um sorry thats not what I meant. I was asking if Murtagh would make it, Or if he would talk to Lou Man and ask him to make it. I've asked him about making maps with me before.

yep, you got it. it's like a rubber film that can stretch any where you want.
and cannonballguy. i know what you are trying to say but the reason they singled out louman seems obvious to me. he is the most popular or famous. they don't know of any one else, so if you don't know any one else who is there to mention? although it is very true there are many great mappers in BZFlag that don't get recognizd nearly as much as they should! not only that but it's not always materials that make a game great. look at mofo. it's not all that fancy it's up ALL THE TIME!! that is what you call a great map.
