Lag/jitter plugin for leveling the playing field

Post by crunchy frog »

Develop a speed control plugin which auto adjusts all tank lag to a number like 300 or a range of 200 to 300 thus (just example) allowing all tanks to play in the same speed range.

Probably better just to deal with the few players with high lag. Once you've been playing with them for a while, you have a good idea of how much lag they have, and you can use the Identify key to see who you're firing at and adjust.

Lag has nothing to do with speed. Increasing everyone to a specific latency would make gameplay WORSE, not better. You apparently know nothing about the concepts at hand.

Lag is the time it takes the packets to get from the server, to the client. You can't "set" the lag, it depends on network conditions.

Speed is set via the /set variable. (Or via a cheat, but lag != cheat)

They have no effect on each other.

It's possible to set the lag with some kind of approximation e.g. computing the actual lag then delaying the outgoing packets but as blast said it would make the gameplay worse.

Would it be possible to use package delaying to reduce the jitter? (Or is this unnecesary as many problems are fixed in the upcoming version anyway)

Fighting jitter with package delaying in general is not possible. What could perhaps be dealed with that way are FPS-caused lagspikes.

You can not expect lag to be much better in the next big version. This thing depends on the physics, games can only use little tweaks to influence connection.
