ok i know it might not be easy to do and useless on some servers, but what about a flag that takes a set ammount of hits and makes it as if it was shot into a portal and will just randomly come out of a portal

I think what he means is, while you're holding this flag, you don't get hit. Instead, the bullets teleport to the nearest teleporter. Kind of like the shield flag.
I think it's a bit too similar to SH though. Maybe if it ricocheted off the tank instead of being absorbed...

Make modifications to the game such that it is optionally possible (e.g. via a server configuration) to allow multiplayer tanks where one player can only drive and the other can control the turret. The implementation would have to be some simple/intuitive interface to join and depart tanks as well as implemented in a fashion that preserves the "spirit" of BZFlag's operational simplicity.
I'm thinking I need a better sig than this...
