Post by Rebel Chikorita »

International Series Tournament

Dates :

Tournament begins Sept. 27 , 2003

Finals (Championship) starts Dec. 1 , 2003

Ends Dec. 31 , 2003

Rules :

*players planning on joining a team that represents a country must currently be a citizen of that country .

*players planning on joining a team that represents a continent or regional block of select countries must be a citizen of one of those countries .

*each team will be responsible for determining its own internal policy , e.g. assigning team captain(s) , selecting members , setting the number of members , practice times , ect. ect.

*a country or continent may be represented by up to two(2) different teams ; however , teams of the same country are not allowed to play official matches against each other unless they are competeing in the I.S. Tournament Finals . this applies to continental teams as well .

*teams that are created must first register with an I.S. Tournament administator .

*a team must consist of at least two(2) active members to be recognized and registered .

*the I.S. Tournament is independant of the BZflag-CTF League , so any players or teams may participate in the tournament without leaving or conflicting with the CTF League .

*match scores must be reported to the I.S. Tournament admin. to be verified and posted .

*official matches should be played on a ducati-like server format ; 2 team CTF , 2 shot ricochet , no jumping , no superflags , 30 minute time limit .

*official matches can be either 2v2 or 3v3 . official matches of 4v4 or 5v5 on the new larger ducati 1.9 server map is pending .

*players cannot switch teams once that player has played in an official I.S. Tournament match . Players may however , switch teams after the I.S. Tournament Championship Finals have concluded for that year , but before playing in any official matches to be accounted for in next years I.S. Tournament .

*new players may be added to a team at any time . as long as the added player meets the proper citizenship requirement . team size should be limited to a maximum of 12 members per team .

*teams will be penalized 1 point from their total team points for every time period that they are idle/inactive for over a month . this includes new teams that have formed but have not played in any matches yet . teams that are inactive for over 4 months may become deleted .

*all teams will have their team points reset to zero(0) at the start of the next I.S. Tournament year/season .

*the tournament will utilize Rebel League scoring , rating , and ranking systems as follows :

Scoring for official matches :

-> 3 points. awarded to winning team
-> 2 points for each team in a tie/draw
-> 1 point for losing team

relative Team strength is...

total cumulative team points / total number of matches played by team

= team point average

Team Ratings :

if team average is -> 2.5-3.0 = "A" team rating
2.0-2.49 = "B" team rating
1.0-1.99 = "C" team rating
>less than 1.0 = "D" team rating

Team Ratings are arbitrary . Team strength is for point of reference only .

Tournament Finals(Championship) :

The top four(4) ranked teams with the highest cumulative points as of Dec. 1st 2003 will qualify to compete in the I.S. Tournament Championship , to be held during the month of December .
Different teams representing the same country or continent may compete in the Finals if they qualify as in the top four(4) rankings .
Only the teams finishing in the top 4 rankings will be allowed to compete for the Championship Title .

The team with the highest cumulative points as of Dec. 1st will receive the top seeded position in the Final Championship round .
2nd , 3rd , and 4th place finishers will received seeding positions respectively .

Tournament Schedule :

after Dec. 1st , 2003 ;
round of play as follows...

semi-Finals --> #1 ranked team plays #4 ranked team , winner = semifinalist A
#2 ranked team plays #3 ranked team , winner = semifinalist B

Finals(Championship)
--> semifinalist A plays semifinalist B , winner =World Championship Team for 2003

i dont really like the idea of creating "blocks" of multiple countries ...
soon u will have teams such as "Central America" or "EU" or "U.N." or the "African subcontinent" vs. the "Nomads of the Siberian tundra" and the "Pacific Micronesians" and the "People of the North Sea Region" ect. ect. blah blah
i can only suggest u get 1 of your danish friends addicted to BZ or possibly find 1 playing . i am sure there are some around...

since this I.S. tourney has a theme of national pride ...of A nation ...an not really of a geographic area thingie ...

sorry :/

im glad that you're interested in the I.S. tournament . please let me know how u want to be involved(if u wish to be an admin. , a team captain , scorekeeper/referee , or just a team player , ect.)

i was hoping that there would be a team to represent Poland . that would be soooooo awesum . i know a few ducati players that are from Poland and if they got together would make a great CTF team ...

Hiho...
Rebel Chikorita > the idea is interesting but it doesn't make sense (in my eyes) to have an 'International Series Tournament' because it's an 'uneven spreading' of the player's locations...forget blocks like EU or something else because countries like the USA or Germany (the 2 best examples I have in mind) alone would be able to create a lot more than only one team ... U cannot expect from the players that they form teams with more than 30/40/50 players. (ok...maybe I hyperbolise a bit :o])
Well...that was the thing I wanted to say...but the idea itself is good...

hi strayer :)

i understand what u r saying but i still think it will work . we will just see how it goes .

a small country with a small team , and a big country with a big team , only reflects the reality of the world , if u think about it.
whether it is fair or not , depends on your point of view . if u put limitations on a bigger country team , and boost a smaller country team , just to try an equalize things , it will not be a fair representation . besides , i do not underestimate the ability of a smaller country team because u never know , depends really more on the talent and skill of the players in that team . a good example is team TAF , with only three members but they have done extremely well in the CTF league . its more a matter of quality vs. quantity , and the willingness to play matches . remember , the I.S. Tournament uses a positive point system , which credits teams for participation and effort . so the more u play the more points u accumulate , even if u lose .
a smaller team will just have to be more present and active to gain the same match playing opportunities as a bigger team with more members has .
also , i really dont expect to see more than 1 team per country forming , but the limit has been set at three so there won't be a single country that monopolizes in the Series Finals (thats IF all 3 teams do qualify to be in the Finals). the limit of three teams per country is a good number because its not too many that it will dominate the Series , yet gives the chance for everyone to play and be involved if they cannot be on a team , or for those that rather start their own team instead ...

p.s.- Team USA is not skeered of big bad ole Germany ;)

Why not also allow "continent" teams? This way, people like dmp or others from smaller countries/countries with lesser per capita representation in "bzworld" can still be involved, and I don't think it would detract from the overall play. IIRC, most players are from North America and Europe. It could also make for more matches, what with the time differences involved.
