Callsign

Post by poops »

I have been playing for the past few months with no problem - now I am unable to because the server asks that I identify myself - I have not changed anything or altered any information - can anyone please help me put this right.

Also - reducing LAG, first, what is this and second, how do I?

Many thanks for your help.

Check the BZFlag Wiki for more information about what lag is and ways to reduce it.

(Also, here is a Wikipedia article explaining lag in more detail)

My guess is that your problem is on Missle Wars 2. I believe Winny turned on REQUIREIDENTIFY yestersday (which means if you are playing with a callsign that is registered, you MUST use the correct password). You need to use your forums username AND password in the bzflag client. Correct me if I'm wrong Winny.

As for lag...

Lag is the average amount of time it takes for information from your computer to make it to the server and visa versa. Jitter is the difference in times and that is why it is stated as +/-.

There are some things you can do about reducing lag and some you can't.

1. Stop any downloads or streaming media
2. Don't connect wirelessly (if possible). While there are many who do play wirelessly, including me, you generally get better performance if you are connected by a wire (less overhead).
3. On older video cards, reduce the graphics quality
4. Change ISPs, but this one is risky as it may be worse
5. And finally, move closer to the server (the info travels less distance... meaning less lag)

Callsign

Post by Die_Papa »

I have a similar problem.
Having played with my callsign for several years already, lately i often get a message that my callsign isn't registered. But i re-login later it just works!
Now indeed Missile War 2.3 hes set callsign required i can't even get on.

Anyone an idea what i can do? :?:
(don't even know anymore where i can change my password, so long ago...)

You use the same username and password that you use here.

Give this a shot if you can't get your callsign to identify properly.

I've had to go to REQUIREIDENTIFY because we've had issues with people being impersonated. Just use identify correctly and you'll be fine.
