Loading Game

Post by KGRFX »

I installed on a Win XP Pro SP2 machine on Tuesday 05/06/08. A Dell Latitude C640 machine.

I have been watching my husband play for a week now and got hooked! This game is sweet! The graphics are top notch and the sound effects keep my 5 year old happy. :lol-old:

I can click on the icon on my desktop it loads just fine, click on join game, then on start server, then I click on start...it gives the connecting to server message than it just sits there...

Is there an extra file I need for the windows version? Is it possible I installed it wrong? Or missed an option I need to check in the game menu?

I so wanna play this game with my family.

Is your windows firewall (or any other firewall for that matter) on? If so you will need to allow BZFlag through.

Uh...seems to be a misunderstanding...but... :o)

You don't have to select "start server", because this would start a BZFlag server on your machine. What you have to do is to go on "Find server" to select a server and to confirm by pressing the return key. After that you just have to "Connect" and ... playing.

I really hope this is what you meant...

Ah, thanks! I'll remember that!

I'll check now and see if my firewall is not letting it through.

It was the firewall after all.

Had it accept BZFlag, was in game less than ten seconds and got blown to bits! I love it!

Thanks for your help! Looking forward to learning all the tips and tricks.

Any recommendations for where to read up on it?

I recommend this site for pointers and tips http://shellshock.bzflag.bz/ (see the guides sections, Rookie Moves and Veteran Stuff).

And here are a couple of my personal pointers:

1. Learn to die gracefully
2. Be friendly and nice at all times
3. Jumping = death (learn to dodge, jump only when you should)
4. Be friendly and nice at all times (worth repeating)
5. Have fun, talk to people, and enjoy
