Post your config file

Post by Jefenry »

Slime and I recently exchanged configs and tried out each other's settings. It was pretty fun, so that gave me the idea to make this thread.

Your config file should be located in:

Code: Select all

Windows
My Documents\My BZFlag Files\2.0\config.cfg

Mac OS X
~/Library/Application Support/BZFlag/2.0/config.cfg

Linux and unix platforms
~/.bzf/2.0/config.cfg
Once you find the file, open it up in a text editor like Notepad or TextEdit. You want to make sure you delete your password, and maybe your callsign and email string if you want.

Code: Select all

Find this line:
set password supersecretpassword

and change it to:
set password ""

Other lines to change if you want:
set callsign ""
set email ""
set port ""
set server ""
BZBB doesn't seem to like .cfg, so after making your changes, rename it with .txt instead.

Also, make sure you don't overwrite your real config, or you may have to try and find your perfect settings all over again. So make sure you have an extra copy before you try someone elses.

I think that's about it, so I'll go first!

I will never show my configurations. And i don't want "configs" from other players. I have my own "configs" and thats good. If two players have the same configurations, they play "equal". Same jumps, same shots, just other tactics. Well, that can be fun, but i don't like to change my "configs".

I think the point of this is not to just share your configuration file with the BZ Community, but to perhaps find ways to enhance your own game play by incoporating something different from another player.

If I hadn't recieved help from other players, I'd still be using the default keys.

Best if you stick to what your used to, however, no harm in trying another players keys :)

Out of the config's I've tried so far, yours is most like mine. The fact that you have one shot key next to your jump key is just like I have it, only in a different place. I as well have left click and wheel as alternate shot keys. Your radar and such is the same as mine as well.

Couple things I found hard to get used to were the text size (too small for me) and the bullet size. Playing at a server with a bunch of people, the radar looks like it's snowing :P

Not a bad setup though, I could probably get used to it.

I have recently changed my shot length and shot size. The length is 40 and size is 3, IIRC.

It's interesting looking at other people's config files; you can fine some neat stuff:
A Heart Attack wrote:set quickMessage5 "That's what SHE said!!!"
me1 wrote:set quickMessage1 "/mine sw"
set quickMessage2 "/mine cr"
set quickMessage3 "/mine sr"
# F6 note: Obviously a mine lover. ;-)
And some of these configs seem odd as to where you're supposed to put your fingers. I'm kinda curious to try them.

Anyway, here's my config. I've kind of annotated it a little, for those of you who just like to read the configs.

My config. Yes, those two endings are intentional.

Mine is mainly for keyboard players.

Changed keymapping:

e - lock on/identify
tab - respawn/restart
o - jump
i - lagstats
enter - shoot

Everything else should be the same.

I normally play with my right hand on the arrow keys and left pointer finger on 'enter' (shoot) and pinky on 'o' (for jump). :) Enjoy.
