Project Meniscus

This is my latest and final map. It takes place in the late 80's at a secret Soviet chemical weapons plant far out in the Arctic tundra. They are tasked with synthesizing a chemical weapon far more potent than any other known nerve agent. However, due to budget cuts and upheaval as the Soviet Union begins to collapse, necessary maintenance has not been performed and one of the storage tanks has sprung a leak spewing deadly cryosarinic acid over a large portion of the military base.

Don your gas masks and head to bzbattleground.com:8888 to give it a try!

Unfortunately, I think it's time to retire from making BZFlag maps. I've found another game that I'd like to get involved with more, but I don't really have time to make maps for both it and BZFlag. I'll probably be around occasionally, but if not, thanks for all the great memories and friendships. :)

Thanks to LouMan, R3lax, Spazzy McGee, Winny, and Yallaire for great textures I'd never be able to make myself. Also thanks to ahs3 for hosting and Optic Delusion for working out a drawInfo bug.

Wings3d for the models, ModelTool to convert to .bzw, DI-Machine to make the drawInfo, Gimp to make a few textures, and a healthy dose of the good old TextEdit.

It was great being part of bzbattleground. :D

I'll still be around some, most likely.

I'm not so sure about the masterpiece part, you don't see all the bugs and messed up stuff that I do. ;)

Thanks for the comments.

Urban Terror, their maps have so many more features ;D You can climb ladders, run up slopes, aim independently of which direction you're moving, and their physics are more realistic. Too bad map making isn't as easy as just using a text editor though.

this is the best map with a story since dutchrai's sandblaster. great work. like easter island, eye candy and playability go hand in hand. i'll definitely vote tankovich! :P i hope you'll just take a break from making maps and won't leave bz for that lame game you mention. *prejudiced*

All I have to say is you rank right up there with LouMan. I can't think of anything else that would express my respect for your mapping skills. Thank you.

April Fools! You're not getting rid of me just yet ;)

I've got a text file with enough map ideas to last me until well after the sun burns out. I've even sketched out a new map already. Although it'll have to wait until I get the bugs sorted out on this map.

A few more fun things about this map:
  • 1. Took 2.5 months to make
    2. Three drawInfo objects
    3. Three death physics
    4. Three dynamicColors
    5. Eight textureMatrixes
    6. Fifty textures
    7. 25,600 lines of code
Green Manalishi wrote:this is the best map with a story since dutchrai's sandblaster.
My map was directly inspired by that story. What an awesome design using such simple objects.

Geese! You have the coolest maps of our time. I just wish they didn't require udp. Stupid udp. I could hang out on your map for ages.

The server requires UDP, not the map. A map is run on a server.
You should try to get it fixed, not having UDP really limits the number of maps you can play on.

Yeah, wish i could. I'm pretty sure its my ISP. We get the standard internet pakage and they threw in a crappy cable modem, trying to make us upgreade to get the good modem. Except, than its $30 more dollars a month. The way my parents are they wont upgrade.

Actually, I play Urban Terror much more than BZFlag, although for chatting with people and making maps, BZFlag can't be beaten.
ducatiwannabe wrote:Splendid piece of work.
Thanks, so many of the models had to be thrown out because they looked horrible. I'd imagine most of the objects have been remade at least 2-3 times.
LegoKid wrote:Oh *beep* you, jeffy
Glad you liked it ;)

Here's the map file, it's the most recent version. There's still a lot of variables to tweak, but I'll try to keep this post updated to the correct map. http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/

Is it just me or is that a little big? Seemed like a pretty simple map to me... (besides the drawinfo)
