cannot read list server

Post by i live yellow submarine »

I've heard this is a common problem, but I still got no idea what to do with it. I get that warning whenever I go to Find Servers, and also when i just try to log in on the last played server.

Which warning? Could be an attack on the list and global authentication servers.

What operating system are you using? What version of the game are you running?

Make sure your firewall isn't blocking BZFlag from accessing the Internet. For a quick test, turn off your firewall software and see if you can bring up the server list. If so, then you'll have to read the documentation for your firewall to determine how to allow BZFlag through.

I've already tried putting bzflag on the allow list, but is that not enough?

What do you get when you go to this web site? http://my.bzflag.org/db and click on "Post Entry"

You can't turn your firewall off for 5 minutes to test? (Assuming your firewall isn't the only thing between your computer and the Internet.. you have a router, right?)

Hey!

I thought I couldn't get the server list.. I haven't been able in a few days..
And I tested kinda all tips.. But it didnt work..
Then, today, I let my client stand still and search for servers for like 5-10 minutes.. And there it was!

But why is it so slow?

I've tested to change my conf, that thing with the "set list http://my.bzflag.org:81/db".
I did save it, close, and recheck if the change is left. It was.
But after when I've runned BZFlag, it has changed back.. Why?

Though the list hasn't worked, I was able to connect to bzexcess:5154 yesterday, but not anymore..

Note:
(I previosly also reinstalled the whole thing, since it didnt work..)

I now got the change in the conf file to stay, but it seems like it didnt matter much.. Still rejected, bad token..

Though I managed to get on "GU ::: Public HiX map ::: rogues only, 100.zaphod.fr:5154" once..

Make sure you took the # off the beginning of the line you changed.

Didnt see that... (If there is a # before, is it just a comment or something then??)

But it still doesnt work... The list shows up after a minute, and I can join once after restart, at least only to maps that I havent played.. Any idea?? :(

I've been away for awhile. Anways, I tried it on my other computer also, and both show the problem now. Did we upgrade clients from 2.0.10?

If it's not working on either one, it's probably a problem with your ISP. Just as a test, can you get to this page in your browser?
http://my.bzflag.org/db/?action=LIST

It should show a lot of lines that look similar to the following:

Code: Select all

0.linuxceptional.com:5156 BZFS0026 007a00050000001e0000000000001e000200070007000700070005 208.111.3.150 Bladlander: Eria Ziel map by w00t! Auto Flag Resets.

Well then it sounds like a firewall issue. Something (on your machine) is not letting BZFlag connect to your network.

It was working for him last night, so his ISP might have tweaked something.
