Vectorized Camouflage

Post by snick »

I have produced a vector version of the blue tank camouflage. This is useful
for its scalability and can be used to make higher resolution textures, e.g.:

Image

Here is the SVG markup (no doubt it could be optimized):

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE svg PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD SVG 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/1.1/DTD/svg11.dtd">

     width="1024px" height="1024px" viewBox="0 0 1024 1024" enable-background="new 0 0 1024 1024" xml:space="preserve">

</g>
</svg>
To preview the vector art, save the above as a file with a '.svg' extension, and then
open it in Firefox. Warning: this will not work in Internet Explorer 7 without a plug-in.

Final words. The artwork represents one quarter of a tank texture. That is, to make
the tank texture you need to combine four of these to make a larger square. One must
take care when doing so to avoid hairline gaps, but I have verified that the textures do
match up perfectly.

I'll happily generate a full set of high resolution tank textures if anyone wants them.

Regards,

Snicko.

If I understand this correctly, it's just a cool looking tank texture? If so, May I please have a set 8)

Looks pretty nice, but doesn't really seem to be blue. It looks more to me like gray-green with a bit of blue thrown around. Pretty cool, though. Looks way better than the textures the game has now IMHO.

Hi. If you're referring to the comparison pics, that's more a matter
of the rendering environment and the lighting in it rather than any
property of the textures. Possibly I could have shown off the textures
in a better way.

The important thing to note is not so much the colours themselves - it's
easy to change colours to whatever you want - but the definition of the
transitions between different colour areas.

If you look at the SVG, you will see it's pretty much what you'd expect,
colorwise.
Pretty cool, though. Looks way better than the textures the game has now IMHO.
Thanks!

I have done some PNG texture sets now in the following sizes:

Code: Select all

micro: 128x128
small: 256x256
medium: 512x512
large: 1024x1024
ultra: 2048x2048
Colour values have been sampled from the original BZ textures.

I'm not sure which you want or where to upload them. They're not
very large individually: most of the ultras are about 80KB in size.

Each group consists of 7 normal textures + 1 special double-size
green texture.

Cheers,

Snick.

ps SVG sets can be made available on demand also.

Wait a minute, did you write that SVG code yourself? I don't see anything saying it was made with something like Inkscape.

I'm not sure exactly what it is you're asking, but I can say I claim no
credit for this work. It is based entirely on the original bitmap textures.
I don't see anything saying it was made with something like Inkscape.
Indeed, I did not use something like Inkscape.

I've made a set of camouflage based on snick's SVG-file. Just changed the colours :) New textures looks pretty nice. Take a look via this link.
I would be glad to send this set to everyone who ask me. Also, if anyone has his own set, please, say about it.

Hey snick, I'd like to try this out also - like beany, I'd like the .png format of the red, green, blue, and purple textures. Although I'm not sure what difference the size makes. May I suggest creating the .png files and then using tar to compress them? Then upload them to a site like http://mediafire.com
If you could do this I'd highly appreciate it. Very nice job by the way!

You can also e-mail me the compressed file here: gabe ([at]) mailtrap.org
Remove the parentheses and brackets and replace 'at' with '@'.
