ARENA! style 1 on 1, 8 observers!

Post by julesthejackal »

I have an idea of running a server for just one hour every Friday night at 8:00pm est. Just 2 players 1 on 1 with 8 observers(ie WWF RAW, gladiators etc). Here where two players who really dont like each other can have a private little war, instead of using these forms. (hint hint) The winner will of course have bragging rights. I need some input for ideas about it, I spoke with Purple Panzer about it and a map design (ie stadium) and all supper flags and no bad flags. If anyone has any more ideas for this......just post it here.

Do we have any takers for the first Match?

LOL

what do you say Spiff, should we?

Spiff, You know I am kidding - besides I would get my a$$ stomped!!!

I kinda like the idea, it does sound like Gladiators taken care of business!

Wonder what is next....

Neat idea guys. Looks like fun.

I wish Spiff hadn't got so ticked off that he left bz completely (he kind of left but he still uses aliases). It stinks that people get in such huge fights over a game.

it is kinda silly to get into personal fights over a game . but it seems that the big arguements that tick people off are not about the game itself , but revolve around the game . namely , the people who play it and how they behave . the real turmoil is underlying . its all about the egotism , misunderstandings , conflicts of interests , conflicts of different personalities , or personal issues ... of certain people within the bzflag community .

everyone has an opinion , and everyone has their own point of view on things ...

fortunately most people do get along well , and thats a good thing . but then there are a few that dont , for whatever reasons it may be . realize that we are not all the same . and arguements will happen . its just a fact of life .

no one is really to blame . u have to deal with it and move on...

bzflag is just an innocent bystander to all our craziness .

O:)

p.s. - the 1v1 arena idea is interesting . reminds mee of the movie 'MaD MaX Beyond Thunderdome' ...

"two men enter , one man leaves!!" LoL

wherez my popcorn ;)

results of first BETA test run

Post by julesthejackal »

Hi everyone :D

I set up a BETA server port 8089 for a trial run of this idea

2 players logged on for a match

Doh! vs. Blackjack

Doh! basically smoked Blackjacks a$$ and after Blackjack was behind by 20...he signed on as an observer and said "NEXT!"

Then Duckarse signed on and the match became very interesting and close. I know there are some bugs to work out, ie no ST or GM flags but hopefully when I get a good map submitted.

So please log on and dont be afraid to give it a go, the /report feature is enabled on this server and I do read my logs.

Thanks Jules The Jackal

PS by the way........I was Blackjack! LOL :D

Might just want to use a random map. In my opinion they are the essence of bz and I love to play on them and dominate :D .

ideas for maps

Post by RedRock »

Sorry don't have the time to make maps..but if somebody wants to make one and needs ideas to use I maybe have one if not implemented yet....
It's for teh 1 vs 1. It would be indeed more fun I suppose to have more than 1 map for this and maybe they can also be used in team-battle or any other kind of battle.

*I thought about those movies where people fight against ech other in mid-air on some platform or framework of tubes...

What about applying this to an bz-arena? If you fall off you loose...and if you fight on a framework of tubes..there are not many places to go to...which make it diffcult I think, but the same time mayeb also interesting.

*For the arena...place some teleporters in or arount it :D...Don't know it this is a good idea...not too much teleporters I suppose, but just placed on strategic places. Maybe no bouncing of bullets in this case.

If I have some more idea...I''l post back

Here's a first cut at a stadium style map.
I can change anything you like, size,
remove the pyramids, etc... Random stuff
can also be automatically generated into
the center of the rink and on the steps.

The contestants can get out of the rink as
the map is right now. Maybe increasing height
steps so higher is harder, and then impossible?
