Frequent name changes

Post by Sparco »

Has anyone gotten annoyed by all the name changes? It seems like it's every other day. What's the reason? Some people have 5-10 callsigns. It is kinda annoying, because you'll be playing a ffa or match and you get killed by what you thought was a 'new' player, you find out who it was, come back the next day, and they changed there callsign again. It's just an observation I've made, If someone could explain why that would be great. Thanks.

I am annoyed too.

Same goes for the team name changing thing and the fast deleted teams, so that some matches cant be entered anymore.

red,

if you need a match reported for a team that already was deleted, the webpage can handle that by reinstating the team, entering the match, then deleting the team. just ask a webpage admin.

Thanx Alex,

we had this problem - with some special players - some months ago.
The lost score / not entered match doesnt bother me. Its the recless behavior of this people and the unnecessary amount of work for the admins (as you described above).

Indeed, pretty much the case, this is the biggest problem. People who do not understand what a fun free source game league is all about: the right balance between fun and competitiveness. Too much weight on the latter leads to less fun, dishonest behaviour, and eventually cheating (either explicit like using illegal codes or implicit, like fake jitter, deletion/creation of teams daily, etc).

That type of players are begging to be in the Hall of Shame.

My player tracker can help track callsign changes to some extent: http://fairserve.bzflag.net/guplayers

Unfortunately it doesn't help when people actually have multiple GU site accounts or register new ones and abandon their old accounts.

Should be forbidden to change nicknames several times. Once, twice or even three times is o.k., but more would be actually annoying, if it happens every new day (or every week). :gross:

Be cool if the forums just had a one change per month limit (or longer). A lot of social networking sites have that kind of restriction.

off topic yes, but I find it rather curious that dexter knows all about 'a lot' of social networking sites'. Care to elaborate, dex???? :D
On second thought, my kids read the forums, so don't.

No need to sound so surprised QD, dexter has been known to have a good idea now and then. ;-)

As supplement to Constitution's "GU Player Tracker" I can offer something similar for BZBB users. Since 1vs1 League requires global registered and auth. players for official matches I was looking for a way to keep players' callsigns somehow up-to-date on the 1vs1 website. I don't want to bother you with the details...so...finally, I'm using the 1vs1 data for my BZstats site too (since 2009-03-18).

These information are neither complete nor always up-to-date because taken once a day only (and there is a delay until the BZstats website is fetching the 1vs1 data). But they are accurate enough to track players' callsigns and to find out many players who are using multiple BZBB accounts too. ;o)

Bambino is right, strayer. He has at least 12-15 +++ nicks
/me wonders if he's familiar with sybil.

Well, since the callsign update happens once a day only, there is indeed much time to change the own callsign several times meanwhile (o: like "sniper15" for bambino...yes, I'm aware of some other of your callsigns...even if not all 17 :o). The collection doesn't include league internal callsigns too (because only those from the BZBB are relevant when playing on servers).

In the end, my aim was not to track all odd ideas of players for callsigns (only the BZBB maintainers could really do that) but to help others getting aware of *serious* callsign changes of ppl they know somehow (and to show indication for players who might use several BZBB accounts).

Apparently some players are confusing nicks with underwear and changing them everyday.
