An option to give the tanks substance and mass.
It seems kind of hokey to just drive through other tanks.
When doing the race courses, it would be fun to bump and grind tanks.
For combat maps, it would force people to think about their team members before they take up a sniping spot that keeps there team mates from entering or leaving an area.

Code it up..

You guys should make a sig banner for that so you don't have to type it over and over again.joevano wrote:Code it up..
But yes, while this would be a nice feature and might not be incredibly hard to implement in theory, I'm guessing that calculating all the new variables involved (especially on crowded servers) would put a lot of strain on the server and would make it very laggy. Plus there are also a whole bunch of bugs involving tanks getting sealed and such in the fixed solid objects we already have, I can't imagine what it would be like if we had moving solid objects.

Imagine you had to build a tower of tanks and drive them in unison in order to get the top tank tank in a position to capture a flag. That could be fun (in a masochistic kind of way).

IF the tanks do get "substance" would they climb on top of each other without jumping if _bumpHeight is set high enough?

Don't think we have to worry about that, as I don't see it happening, ever.

With collision detection tanks could blow up when they collided each other

That's called the SteamRoller flag.

With or with the steamroller flag, running into another tank and blowing up will get very annoying. In a map like Castle Warfare, it would get way hectic. seems lik a bad mod.

My idea was there would be bumping and blocking in racing maps. And You could design maps with bottle necks to frustrate players, if you so desired. OR even the possibility of pushing people. A game where the object is to force you opponent in to the lava. Or if you're out of ammo, you can still push people off of edges.
Re: An option to give the tanks substance and mass.
Again, this is something that will likely never happen in BZFlag. But you're free to fork the game and add that feature.

I think we get that blast.
And when talking about pushing other tanks, it also brings other variables. If your at x speed and hit a tank, then the tank will travel x units far. And in general, tanks in BZFlag cant move sideways unless on physics. What if you hit the side of a tank?

You haven't even considered what a little lag/jitter/loss would do.

Exactly. That proves my point even more. Just the many changes and effects it would cause the server is unbearable. From variables, to lag, to code. Unneccesary.blast wrote:You haven't even considered what a little lag/jitter/loss would do.

as far as racing goes, force-give everyone a SR flag. There is a bug (don't know if it's fixed yet or not) that if 2 SRs collide, sometimes only one will explode. Other then that, it gives the race "accudents" just like in real life.

Re: An option to give the tanks substance and mass.
Not really a bug. Just a limitation. Death is handled client-side, and with you introduce lag, one client thinks the other one has touched it, and the other one doesn't. Similar thing works for SW, though that's caused by movement alone and the fact that SW gradually expands. (if one SW is chasing another SW, the one in the lead can kill the other one without dying).
